‘Queen is punishing us’ Meghan Markle and Harry’s furious reaction behind closed doors

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are thought to be furious behind the scenes, after the Queen’s latest agreement on the couple’s post-royal life. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex believe they are being “victimised” by the Queen after she banned them from using the word royal in their future branding. Royal insider Richard Fitzwilliams revealed that the royal couple are “very, very unhappy with the Queen’s decision”.

This comes after Harry and Meghan released what has been described as “an extraordinary statement” where they claim Her Majesty did not own the word ‘royal’.

Fitzwilliams told Australia’s Sunrise programme that this was “an unnecessary potshot at the Queen”.

He continued: “They wanted to make a point with this – but did they need to?

“They feel they are being victimised by being put on a 12-month probation. That they are being punished.”

Fitzwilliams added: “They wanted to remain part-time working royals. They wanted to be able to use their titles.

“The Queen stepped in with this decision because she had to. Harry should have shown more humility.”

In an update on their Sussex Royal website, the couple stated they did not intend to use the term, but took a jibe at the Palace by pointing it could be used outside the UK.

The statement read: “There is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word ‘Royal’ overseas”.

The response from the Duke and Duchess has been roundly condemned by a number of royal commentators.

Prince Charles’s biographer Tom Bower has said the public is “finally seeing Meghan’s true nature and motives”.

He told the Mail Online: “Her comments about the Queen’s decision smacks of spiteful fury. I fear it will get worse.”

The Queen’s decision means the couple will have to rebrand their popular SussexRoyal Instagram account and website.

A spokeswoman for the Sussexes said:”The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use ‘SussexRoyal’ in any territory post-Spring 2020.”

Piers Morgan joined in on the backlash against the pair, claiming they had shown “staggering disrespect” toward Queen.

He tweeted: “The staggering disrespect these two keep showing to the Queen is outrageous.  Who the hell do they think they are?”
