The Queen reportedly extended the invite to the Sussex’s for a big royal sleepover with many members of the family which will have seen the couple arrive in the UK earlier than planned. Royal expert Katie Nicholl told GB News Breakfast that Harry, 37, and Meghan, 41, were “invited at the end of August”.

She added: “The Queen always has this wonderful, extended stay for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

“There is a big sleepover at Balmoral, they were invited to go to that.”

She added: “They were also invited to go to Birkhall with the Prince of Wales and thus far they haven’t done it.”

The Sussex’s have arrived in the UK for a whistle-stop tour of Europe visiting charities close to their heart.

On Monday, the couple attended the One Young World Summit in Manchester and then went to Dusseldorf for an event for the Invictus Games on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the couple will be back in London to attend the WellChild Awards, but it is not known if they will visit family during their visit.

Ms Nicholl said: “I know from sources very close to the Prince of Wales that he is prepared to do anything it will take to get this relationship back on track, I think not least because he wants to as a father.

“He wants to see his children as a grandfather, but I think he’s acutely aware that if there is this rift that threatens to overshadow his future reign as well.

“There are other issues at play here.”

During their stay in the UK, Harry and Meghan returned to Frogmore Cottage which is just 380 feet away from Adelaide Cottage where Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have just moved to.

Despite the close proximity, it is not thought that the two brothers will reunite during this trip.

Along with not seeing the Cambridge’s, Harry and Meghan also declined the invite from Her Majesty and a separate one from Prince Charles.

According to palace sources, His Royal Highness has said that Harry and Meghan are “always welcome” to his home.

Insiders revealed to The Mirror that Charles believes that having Meghan and Harry stay with him would have been a “good opportunity for everyone to take stock and relax”.

However, “the invitation was declined, as it has been before” but the source added that Charles has not “wavered” his attempts to rekindle his relationship with his son.
