According to dailymail.co.uk, Palace sources said royal aides stayed up until 3am to watch the interview via video link as it aired on CBS on Sunday, instead of waiting until it aired on ITV at 9pm last night. A royal insider told the news outlet the atmosphere in Buckingham Palace was of “intense personal shock and sadness”.
They added that Harry had pushed the “nuclear button on his own family. People are just reeling.”
Senior Government minister Lord Zac Goldsmith condemned the couple for having “loaded up a plane and dropped bomb after heavy bomb on Buckingham Palace.”
ITV News royal editor Chris Ship tweeted: “Harry and Meghan loaded up a plane and dropped bomb after heavy bomb on Buckingham Palace in their Oprah interview.
“We wait to see how the Palace will respond to their claims.”
Lord Goldsmith responded to Mr Ship by quoting his tweet, adding: “Not ‘Buckingham Palace’ – Harry’s family. Harry is blowing up his family.”
Sources told the Mail royal staff said they had helped the Sussexes during “extremely difficult and trying three years” and felt “angry and let down”.
A source added: “Staff are reeling. But there is [also] a strong sense of needing to retain a dignified silence and show kindness and compassion.
“There’s a lot people want to say but no one wins with a tit-for-tat battle.
“Bridges need to be built after all this is over, after all.”
During the bombshell interview Meghan told Ms Winfrey that her life as a working royal had become so unbearable that she lost the will to live.
She said: “I just didn’t want to be alive any more. And that was a very real and clear and frightening and constant thought.”
She said she went to “one of the most senior people” within the Royal Family and then to the palace human resources department.
However, she said “nothing was ever done”.
The couple also claimed there were “several conversations” within the Firm about the colour of their son Archie’s skin colour.
She said how the conversations were with Harry who relayed them to her but they did not reveal which royal it was.
