Queen heartbroken: Monarch is ‘sad’ as Meghan Markle and Harry ‘disappear into the sunset’

The Queen has faced several challenges during her 68-year long reign. But it is still sad for the monarch to look at key members of her family leave her country behind, her former press secretary said. Royal commentator Dickie Arbiter highlighted how Meghan and Prince Harry’s decision was a sad moment for the Queen, turning 94 next week.

The former press officer at Buckingham Palace told The New Yorker: “It is sad for the Queen — at ninety-three, the last thing she wants to see is her family disappear into the sunset.”

Meghan and Prince Harry announced their intention to step back as senior royals in early January, after a six-week break from royal duties spent in Canada.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex wanted to carve out a new role for themselves within the Royal Family, working only part-time on royal projects while also pursuing private and profitable ventures.

But the Queen and senior aides set out very different rules for what became quickly known as Megxit – with the Sussexes renouncing to the use of their full titles and the chances to carry out royal duties, stepping down as senior royals and promising to repay the £2.4million used to renovate Frogmore Cottage.

Meghan and Harry’s decision to part from the Royal Family didn’t just hit the Queen, Mr Arbiter said.

The former press officer at the palace believes Megxit has also disappointed the British public.

He continued: “It is also a letdown for the British people.

“But the British people are stoic, and they get on with it.

“And, if that’s what Harry and Meghan want, good luck to them.”

Prince Harry and Meghan have relocated to California in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

But this move has been a long time coming which happened in haste only because of the worldwide crisis, a source has claimed.

They told The Sun: “Harry and Meghan have left Canada now for good.

“The borders were closing and the flights were stopping. They had to get out.

“But this move was planned for some time.

“They realised Canada would not work out for various reasons and they want to be based in the Los Angeles area.

“They have a big support network there.

“It’s where their new team of Hollywood agents and PRs and business managers are based.

“Meghan has lots of friends there and, of course, her mum Doria.”

The Sussexes, who officially stepped down as senior royals on March 31, said at the end of last month they wanted to focus on their family and on working behind the scene during this pandemic, postponing any big announcement concerning their future.

However, in early April they said they felt compelled to speak about their new organisation after trademark applications bearing the name Archewell were found.

In a statement, the Sussexes told the Daily Telegraph: “Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be.

“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’ – the Greek word meaning

‘source of action’.

“We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name.

“To do something of meaning, to do something that matters.”

The Sussexes added once again they would not open up any further on their organisation and launch it only when the time is right.
