The coronavirus pandemic has been hard on the Royal Family. Prince Charles returned a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 in April, and he and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were forced to self-isolate in their Birkhall home, on the Queen’s Balmoral estate in Scotland. The Prince has since recovered and has returned to performing some of his duties. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, both in their nineties, have retreated into Windsor Castle, considering they are both in the increased risk category.

Three months ago, when the lockdown first started, it was hard to see how the Royal Family would continue to unite the nation while in isolation.

However, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall along with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have really stepped up in the monarch’s absence.

While the Queen has been stuck indoors, her son and grandson have taken charge of the monarchy’s future plans.

The Duchess of Cambridge, 38, and Prince William, 37, have made a host of virtual appearances during the crisis as they isolate with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl has revealed how the couple have been “stepping up to the plate” amid the pandemic.

Ms Nicholl revealed: “It’s uplifting for Britain, particularly for royalists, to see what the future of the Royal Family is going to look like.

“The Royal Family has gone to great lengths not to be seen to be aloof or distant or unreliable.”

The expert went on to praise Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip for “embracing” working through digital platforms throughout the last few months.

It is not the first time the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been praised for their efforts.

Speaking back in April, royal expert Roya Nikkah told BBC Breakfast how the couple are “making sure they are visible” and “sharing personal insights” to ensure the monarchy stays relevant and up-to-date throughout the crisis.

Ms Nikkah said: “The very clever thing the Cambridges have always done is they’ve always given us just enough of a little insight into their personal life, what it’s like at home with George, Charlotte and Louis, so people understand they are going through similar things to what everyone else is going through.”

The Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall have also been pulling their weight in recent months.

The couple welcomed the French President, Emmanual Macron, to Clarence House to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of General de Gaulle’s ‘Appel’ to the French people to resist the occupation of France by Germany in the Second World War.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s move shows that formal royal engagements are somewhat returning to normality.

Additionally, the couple made their first public outing when they made an unannounced visit to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on June 16.

The duo spoke to front-line workers on the grounds of the hospital, with everyone following social distancing guidelines.

They were accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Edward Gillespie, and the Chief Executive of the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust, Deborah Lee.

Ms Lee said: “We were honoured to welcome their Royal Highness to our hospital today. It’s been an incredibly uplifting occasion for all of my colleagues and one that we will remember for a long time to come.”

Prince Charles added: “It’s been a marvellous opportunity just to have a chance of seeing people I know have been doing so much – literally on the front line.

“And having to endure an awful lot of stress and strain in their wonderful way – how they do it, I don’t know. But delivering everything in the most effective way.”
