The Queen has returned to Windsor Castle this week after spending time in Scotland and Sandringham since August. But could she be forced to quarantine after the Royal Family confirmed the Queen’s daughter-in-law Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is now self-isolating after coming into contact with somebody who tested positive for coronavirus?
Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is the wife of the Queen and Prince Philip’s youngest son, Prince Edward.
Today the Royal Family confirmed she is self-isolating after coming into contact with someone who has coronavirus.
A statement from the family said: “Earlier this week The Countess of Wessex came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.
“She is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home.”
The Countess of Wessex has carried out a number of royal engagements this week.
On Sunday she rain 1.5 miles in the torrential downpours beside one of the 45,000 runners chosen to take part in the London Marathon.
She also visited the National Spacce Centre on Wednesday to mark World Space Week.
On Thursday, Sophie visited Stepping Stones School in Surrey to join staff and students to celebrate World Teachers Day.
Has Sophie been in close contact with the Queen?
According to royal sources, the Countess of Wessex has not been in contact with any other member of the Royal Family except her close family including Prince Edward, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn.
A palace source said: “The Countess has not been in contact with the Queen or any other royals outside her own family since meeting the affected person.
“She will continue to self isolate at home as per the government advice.”
