The Queen, 94, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, have been staying at Windsor Castle with a reduced household during the pandemic. The monarch left Buckingham Palace in March, while Philip travelled from Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk where he has been enjoying much of his retirement from royal duties.

After spending so much time together during the lockdown, the Queen and Philip – who wed in 1947 – have decided they do not want to live apart again, an insider claimed.

The source said: “Everyone who has seen her recently says the Queen appears to have a new lease of life because she loved the chance to spend quality time with Philip again.

“Obviously she has been gravely worried about the nation during the pandemic but those around her have seen how amazing they have been together.

“Because of self-isolation and with only a small team of loyal staff, dubbed HMS Bubble, this is the first time the Queen has been able to spend quality time with her husband for years.

“They have been able to relax and finally have the chance to live like regular people aged in their 90s should be able to.

“It has sparked whispers within the palace that now, at 94 years old, the Queen could step back further and enjoy her life with Philip.

“But there is no sign she ever wants to stop working.

“They haven’t really had a period of time together like this in many years.”

Speaking to The Sun, the source added: “They have remembered what a good team they are and privately decided they should not be separated ever again.

“They are causing a headache because they don’t want to live apart any more.”

The Queen and Philip will head to Balmoral Castle next month for their summer break.

They will be going ahead with their annual holiday in Scotland after four months at Windsor Castle.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh plan to move to Balmoral Castle in early August to commence their annual summer stay. All arrangements will be in line with the relevant guidelines and advice.”

The monarch and Philip, who have been married for more than 72 years, are expected to remain in Scotland through August and September.

During the lockdown, the Queen has made two televised addresses to the nation.

She and Philip have both celebrated their birthdays.

They also attended Princess Beatrice’s secret royal wedding last week.

The Queen took part in her first ever video call as part of her public duties in June.

She has also been holding her Privy Council meetings by video link and her weekly audiences with Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the phone.

And Philip delighted royal fans with a rare official public engagement at Windsor on Wednesday.
