Queen ‘got herself a bit exhausted’ after trying to put Prince Philip’s death behind her

The Queen continued to carry out her duties following Prince Philip’s death but the busy agenda got her a little worn out, according to Gyles Brandreth. The Queen’s “fundamental faith” in her duties had her back to work soon after the end of the two-week mourning period and Her Majesty could be seen attending various events for several months during the summer. The Queen attended her last in-person event at the opening ceremony of the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood on October 2 before heeding doctors’ orders to rest.

Mr Brandreth told GB News: “I was lucky enough to know the Duke of Edinburgh because I was the chairman at one of his charities, the National Playing Field’s Association, the first national charity he took on back in 1947, when he married Princess Elizabeth, the Queen, and that’s relevant because that’s before either of us was born.

“The Queen had her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh from 1947 until this year and then following his sad death at the age of 99 after a quite remarkable life.

“The Queen, we remember her at the funeral and seeing her in isolation, people felt very sad for her, and of course, the isolation wasn’t isolation for her because she was in Windsor in the Chapel, she was with the guard.

“Her faith is absolutely fundamental to her.”

“I do remember when my own mother was widowed, she had a kind of burst of energy afterward saying life goes on, and the Queen being a woman of faith and duty life goes on and I think she just got herself a bit exhausted.”

The Queen was “deeply saddened” this weekend as she could not attend the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph this Sunday due to a “sprained back”.

She was also absent from various public events such as the COP26 Summit and had to cancel a visit to Northern Ireland.

The monarch has only missed the Remembrance Sunday ceremony six times since taking the throne in 1953.

Debates have been going on on the Queen’s health scare as the appearance on Remembrance Day would have officially marked her comeback after her three weeks of rest.

Buckingham Palace said that the Queen has asked all her courtiers to make sure she is kept visible because she does not want people to speculate that she is not getting up or doing anything.
