Queen gave Meghan Markle ‘DRESSING DOWN’ after row over egg – ‘We DON’T do that!’
The former TV actress travelled to Windsor Castle ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry last May to test some of the food that was going to be served at the reception. Royal author Katie Nicholl explained Meghan Markle had insisted there be a macrobiotic alternative’for some of her Hollywood friends who followed the diet, which derives from Zen Buddhism. Ms Nicholl told Yahoo’s Royal Box: “Meghan got very upset when she felt that she could taste egg in a dish when she was told there was no egg in there, and she said, ‘No, I can taste it, I can taste there’s egg in this dish.’
“I think there was a bit of an upset when suddenly the Queen walked in, because of course, this was Windsor Castle, this is her home.
“And she just quietly took Meghan to the side and said, ‘Meghan, in this family we don’t speak to people like that’.”
According to macrobiotics, meat, dairy products and sweeteners like sugar should be avoided, along with black tea and carbonated drinks.
Whilst the Queen and Meghan Markle have been seen enjoying one another’s company, they have reportedly had their fair share of difficult moments too.
In November last year it was reported the monarch ‘had words’ with Prince Harry over his ‘difficult bride’s’ choice of tiara.
The Duchess of Sussex was said to have had her “heart set” on a tiara containing emeralds but was told she couldn’t wear it because the green stones might have come from Russia.
A royal insider told The Sun that the Queen stepped in and told Harry: “She gets what tiara she’s given by me.”
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first child any day now.
Ms Nicholl said she expects the new parents will “do things differently” when it comes to childcare from the royal tradition.
She said: “They’ll shake up tradition, they’ll push those Royal boundaries.
“I think there is every chance that the nanny could be American.
“I think it is probably quite likely that they are not going to be a Norland nanny.
“I don’t think that sort of traditionalism that we’ve seen with the Cambridges is the way the Sussexes want to go.
“I’ve certainly heard that Harry, not just Meghan, would like to have a more relaxed approach to their parenting.”
