The Queen, 94, has not responded to any of the allegations in the book about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and neither has any other member of the Royal Family – but author Omid Scobie believes they will never respond. He claimed that Buckingham Palace feared the book would be “incredibly damaging” to the Royal Family. He added there is a fear of the “truth coming out” of the inner workings of the monarchy.
Speaking on ABC’s HeirPod, Mr Scobie said: “I don’t expect there to be a public response from the palace in that capacity.
“However it has been very interesting to see some of the conversations that clearly have come from those quarters with certain areas of the tabloid press.
“It’s been interesting to see commentary emerge from various palace sources or royal aides almost discrediting the book without having read it.
“There was almost this fear internally that it would be something incredibly damaging to the Royal Family.
“If I’m being quite honest I think a lot of that boils down to the fear of the truth coming out.
“I think that this book does pull back the curtain in some ways on the inner workings of the machine that runs the institution of the monarchy.
“But I also think that what’s in this book is fair and balanced that’s why I mentioned it was important for us to speak to those close to the Cambridges and other members of the Royal Family.
“In those later stages when Harry and Meghan stepped back, we not only understand why they did it but why other members of the Royal Family might not have appreciated how it was done.”
The book was written by royal commentators Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, and both Meghan and Harry claim to have had no input with it.
The Queen was aware the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were unhappy in their roles within the Royal Family but she had no idea the couple would drop a bombshell statement on their Instagram announcing their departure in January 2020, it has been claimed.
The new Channel 5 documentary ‘The Queen: In Her Own Words’ explained how the turbulent time at the beginning of the year played out for the monarch.
The programme’s narrator, Andrew Scarborough, said: “In 2020 she beat Harry and Meghan in a war of words and proved herself to be the Queen of social media.”
Expert Wesley Kerr OBE said: “It was a situation like a kettle which had been coming up to boil and it boiled over.

“They issued that sudden statement saying that they would be stepping back from their role as senior royals and that they had laid out what their terms would be.”
Mr Scarborough continued: “#Megxit trended all over the world and dragged the Queen into a Twitterstorm.”
Royal editor Ingrid Seward added: “The statement came as a complete surprise to the Queen.
“She knew they weren’t happy, she knew that they were in talks with her advisers but she had no idea they were going to put out their own statement.”
Mr Scarborough said: “Although the Queen had been caught off guard, a brief and concise tweet posted just hours later revealed that discussions were at an early stage.
“In just 34 friendly words, the Queen had taken back control of the situation.”
