Queen 'extends olive branch to Harry and Meghan with invite to Platinum Jubilee'
The Queen has ‘extended an olive branch’ to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by inviting them to her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, it’s reported.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex plan to attend Her Majesty’s official birthday parade, Trooping the Colour, in June next year, it is understood.
It remains to be seen if the couple will make an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the traditional RAF flypast.
Only senior royals are likely to appear on the balcony under plans created by royal aides – but this may exclude Harry and Meghan, who stepped down for good last year.
Some may view their absence as a snub, given the family tensions that have emerged over the past few years.
But the pair are thought to have a good relationship with the monarch, with Harry previously saying they had shared Zoom chats with her and Prince Philip before his death.
A source told The Mail On Sunday: ‘The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been invited and I’m sure the Queen is very much looking forward to seeing them there.
‘The balcony moment will be decided much nearer the time but there’s a limit to how many family members should be on it, and I would have thought that working Royals who contribute to the family would be higher on the list than the Sussexes.’
Prince Charles is known to favour a ‘slimmed down’ monarchy, with claims that he will change key documents to ensure this when he becomes King.
His stance has allegedly angered Prince Andrew who missed out on a balcony appearance for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
Harry is currently in the UK to unveil a statue of his late mother Princess Diana alongside brother Prince William.
He’s thought to be quarantining for five days at Frogmore Cottage near Windsor Castle.
The duke’s arrival comes after he was accused of lying when he told Oprah Winfrey his father had cut him off financially.
A Sussex spokesman strongly denied this version of events, saying: ‘You are conflating two different timelines and it is inaccurate to suggest there is a contradiction.
‘The Duke’s comments during the Oprah Winfrey interview were in reference to the first quarter of the fiscal year which starts in April.
‘The same date the transitional year the Sandringham agreement began and that is in alignment with the Clarence House accounts.’
