Darren McGrady, who cooked for the Queen for 15 years, previously detailed how the monarch refuses to touch the vegetable. Camilla also made the reveal during an appearance on MasterChef Australia. Mr McGrady, who now owns a restaurant in the US, has also detailed other strange food quirks in the Royal Family.

Mr McGrady first revealed the Queen’s hate of garlic in 2017, speaking to Harpers Bazaar.

The chef said the Queen ordered her cooks to keep garlic out of her meals, as she hated the taste of it.

He said: “We can never serve anything with garlic or too much onions.

“We also couldn’t serve meat that was rare, as she liked her meat more well done.”

Camilla gave more of an insight into the monarch’s distaste for the food staple.
During her 2018 MasterChef appearance, the Duchess was asked about what foods you wouldn’t see at a royal reception.

She said in reply: “I hate to say this but garlic. Garlic is a no-no.”

When prompted about if it was because of the smell after eating, Camilla agreed and said: “You always have to lay off the garlic.”

John Higgins, another former chef at Buckingham Palace, added more on the Queen’s disdain for garlic.

He detailed to the National Post the ban on the veg, and said: “The Queen is a wonderful lady, the royal family are wonderful people but they’re missing out on garlic because at Buckingham Palace you don’t cook with garlic.

“I suppose, in case you get the royal burp.

“I hear chefs say, ‘I cooked for the Queen’ or ‘Here is a recipe that’s authentic from Buckingham Palace,’ and the first thing I look for is garlic.”

Despite the ban on garlic, Mr McGrady claimed the Queen is not a fussy eater, but just isn’t bothered about trying new foods.

Speaking to Hello! Magazine, he said the Queen was never much of an adventurous eater, and added: “She always ate to live rather than live to eat. Prince Philip was the foodie.

“He’d want to try any new dishes all the time and got excited about new ingredients whereas the Queen, if we had a new recipe, she’d have to look at the whole recipe before saying,‘Yes ok let’s try it.’

“But for the most part she stuck to the same dishes week in week out.”

Previously, the former chef also revealed the Queen’s preferred way of eating bananas – with a knife and fork.

Speaking in a YouTube video detailing fruit preparations for the Royal Family, he said the Queen would never eat the fruit with her hands.

Mr McGrady added: “It was impolite to eat a banana like a monkey at Buckingham Palace.

“You’re supposed to eat it with a fruit knife and fork.”
