Queen Elizabeth II has a lifelong love of horses. The event welcomes around 300,000 visitors over five days, all dressed up in their finest clothes. Each year, the Queen opens the races for the day with a royal procession whereby the Queen and accompanying members of the royal family arrive along the track in horse-drawn landaus before they spend the day watching the races from the Royal Enclosure. On day one of Royal Ascot, the Queen was accompanied by her son Prince Andrew, the Duke of York and Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands were in town for the Order of the Garter service that took place on Monday.

The traditional procession was made in open carriages despite the intermittent rain.

The Princess Royal and the Early and Countess of Wessex were in a third carriage, while the final coach carried Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge followed closely behind, alongside the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

Only Prince Harry and Meghan were absent, with the couple looking after their six-week-old baby Archie Harrison.

Queen Elizabeth II wore a cornflower blue coat which she paired with a matching floral hat, white gloves and pearl earrings.

On the second day of Ascot, the Queen arrived with her eldest son Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

The Queen and Camilla wore coordinated blue outfits, with Queen Elizabeth II opting for a pastel blue, while Camilla wore a mint shade.

The Queen accessorised her outfit with a striking sapphire and diamond brooch.

She was all smiles on the second day even in spite of the rain, using her own umbrella while she walked on the grounds of the racecourse.

On the third day, Queen Elizabeth arrived with her daughter Princess Anne.

The third day at Ascot is traditionally called “Ladies Day” and so it was fitting that the royal women arrived together.

The Queen wore a dove grey coat with yellow embellishments around the collar.

The dress sparked intrigue among royal fans who disputed the colour of the dress: many thinking it was blue instead of grey.

On Friday, the fourth day of Royal Ascot, the Queen arrived with Lady Helen Taylor wearing a bright pink ensemble.

She also wore a matching hat with a floral dress underneath her coat and white gloves.

A large diamond brooch could be seen pinned on her left and she also wore a pair of pearl earrings.

Despite the sunny weather, the Queen had a think tartan blanket covering her legs as she sat down in the carriage.

Saturday was the final day of Royal Ascot this year.

The sun was shining yesterday and the Queen looked especially summery in a light green dress and coat.

She matched her ensemble with a large hat which featuring white flowers.
