Queen Elizabeth II reportedly told a close confidante she believed her grandson Prince Harry was “behaving in a beastly way”, a royal commentator has claimed. Richard Eden, diary editor at the Daily Mail, recalled allegations made in royal expert Katie Nicholl’s recent book, The New Royals, about Prince Harry, who reportedly peddled the notion that “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets”. Ms Nicholl, citing the credible source of Lady Elizabeth Anson, a cousin and close friend of the Queen, alleged that the monarch was fed up with how her grandson was behaving and accused him of being “difficult about the arrangements” for the wedding.

Richard Eden told Palace Confidential: “Well I think that quote was made to the Queen’s great friend and cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson and she is quoted quite extensively in the book.

“She is now dead – she died during the pandemic a couple of years ago – but she was definitely a credible source.

“But, I mean, one of the things I found most interesting in the book was about the run-up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding.

“[Ms Nicholl] relates how the Queen actually said that Harry was behaving in a beastly way and that he was just being so difficult about all of the arrangements. All of that business about the tiara and all of the arrangements in general, that sort of idea that what Meghan wants, Meghan gets.

“And the Queen had reportedly expressed her frustration about this to Lady Elizabeth and Katie Nicholl reports that in the book.”

The turmoil within the Royal Family during the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been well-documented.

Reports emerged swiftly after the wedding that Ms Markle had made Catherine, now the Princess of Wales, cry during the preparations, although Ms Markle has denied that.

The issues during that time became the first public evidence of friction between the American actress and the royals.

The latest revelations further elucidate the problems between the two parties, with the Queen shown to be less than happy at the behaviour of the young couple.

At the time, it was reported that Meghan had wanted to wear an emerald tiara but the Queen had instead selected a diamond tiara worn by her grandmother, Queen Mary, in 1932.

Ms Markle was allegedly furious at not being able to wear what she wanted during her wedding.

The Queen was believed to have told Prince Harry, according to a royal insider: “Meghan cannot have whatever she wants. She gets what tiara she’s given by me.”

“The Queen also questioned why Meghan needed a veil for the wedding, given it was to be her second marriage,” the source alleged, adding that: “Meghan can be difficult.”

Prince Harry was reportedly also incensed by the tiara ordeal, accusing the Queen’s personal dresser of dragging her feet while working with Ms Markle, The Sun reported.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were wedded on Saturday 19 May 2018 in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Less than two years later, in January 2020, the couple announced they would be quitting royal duties and moving to the US.
