The monarch has reportedly named one Fergus and the other Muick, with the monikers both said to have special meanings behind them. The Queen acquired the pets last month as she faced the drama over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview while Prince Philip was in hospital.

According to the Sun, the monarch named one of the puppies in tribute to her uncle Fergus Bowes-Lyon, who was killed in action during World War One.

Muick – pronounced Mick – is named after Loch Muick on her beloved Balmoral estate in Scotland.

A source told the newspaper: “Both name choices are extremely poignant and dear to the Queen.

“Loch Muick is one of her favourite places on the Balmoral estate and the loss of uncle Fergus in the First World War is still honoured by the family.”

Fergus is believed to be a dorgi, which is a cross between a corgi and a dachshund.

Meanwhile, Muick was reportedly bought for £2,650 from the Pets4Homes website and was originally called Charlie.

The dogs are thought to have been a gift.

And they are the first the Queen has had which are not descended from a corgi called Susan that she received for her 18th birthday in 1944.

Royal expert Phil Dampier said on Twitter: “The Queen has always taken great comfort from her corgis in difficult times.”

The monarch, who is known for her love of dogs and horses, was left with just one dorgi – Candy – after Vulcan, also a dorgi, died last year.

An insider previously said she was “delighted” with her two new puppies as she spends the lockdown at Windsor Castle.

They added: “It’s unthinkable that the Queen wouldn’t have any corgis.

“It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens.

“They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home.

“Both are said to be bringing in a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in hospital.”

The Queen has spent much of the pandemic at Windsor with the Duke of Edinburgh, who recently underwent heart surgery during his longest-ever hospital stay.

Philip was reunited with the monarch on Tuesday.

It comes as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have plunged the Royal Family into crisis with their bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, which aired earlier this month.
