Queen, Charles and William forced to always have one thing with them – ‘Just in case’

Queen Elizabeth II is one of the most-travelled heads of state in the world having visited most countries in the world since she took over the throne in 1952. But due to her prominent position at the head of the Royal Family, the monarch and Prince Charles and Prince William must ensure they always have a “bag full of their blood” with them in case of emergency. Speaking to Yahoo’s The Royal Box, royal expert Duncan Larcombe said: “If it’s the Queen on tour, the royal physician with them with a bag full of their own blood.

“Just in case something happens.”

The bizarre inclusion in the royal luggage is due to the primordial importance of the Queen’s health when she is visiting abroad.

If the monarch is visiting a country where a reliable blood supply is questionable then a pack of her own blood will be included, always following in their convoy.

This is in case a blood transfusion should be necessary without Queen Elizabeth’s health being at risk.

Emergencies will be responded to right away as the Queen’s doctor is always nearby when she travels.

The medical practitioner is a Royal Navy doctor and the will always be carrying a bulky medical bag containing a mobile defibrillator and emergency medicine.

The doctor will also have carefully researched where the nearest hospital is to the monarch at all times.

And Prince Charles and Prince William, as second and third in line to the throne, are also required to follow the rule when they are on official duty abroad.

When on tour, members of the Royal Family have a set of items they always bring along, including a black outfit.

The rule was imposed to ensure royals have the right clothing should they return from a tour overseas in mourning.

That was the case when the Queen returned from a visit to Kenya in 1953 following the death of her father, King George VI.

The monarch is also believed to have included a camera in her luggage whenever she travelled abroad on official duty.
