Queen Camilla announced as recipient of special new honour

Queen Camilla has been bestowed with a unique honour one month on from being crowned alongside husband King Charles III in May. The former Duchess of Cornwall will become an additional member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to the country.
It was announced in the King’s Birthday and Coronation Honours List 2023, which the New Zealand government published on Monday.
The nation’s former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern joins the Queen on the special list of 182 honours, and will receive the Dame Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, Hello! reports.
Charles and Camilla visited New Zealand as part of an official tour in 2019, with the trip including three public walks where members of the public could greet the royals in person.
During their visit the couple made a visit to a winery and experienced a traditional wreath-laying ceremony.

Charles is yet to return to the nation since becoming King in September of last year, however he has visited both Germany and Romania during his young reign.
His late mother Queen Elizabeth II made close links with New Zealand during her 70-year reign, visiting the country 10 times.
During a visit in 1953, Elizabeth said: “I want to show that the Crown is not merely an abstract symbol of our unity but a personal and living bond between you and me.”
