QUEEN ELIZABETH II has shared the extraordinary details of a narrow escape she had with death in 1994. The 93-year-old royal shared the story of the incident in 1994 where her skilled personal protection officer intervened to save her life at the Buckingham Palace garden party on Tuesday. The Queen was speaking with a guest who later shared the incident with the world, but what actually happened?

Lucy Stafford, 19, was invited to the glamourous party on Tuesday for her charitable work.

She later told Hello magazine the Queen had revealed a story about how her bodyguard saved her life after catching a cricket ball that had been careening right towards her.

Miss Stafford told Hello: “The Queen was very funny, she reminisced about how her bodyguard had caught a cricket ball flying towards her at a match in 1994.

“She said she would have been dead if it hadn’t been caught!”

The philanthropic 19-year-old shared her experiences and conversation with Queen Elizabeth II via her Instagram account.

Alongside a series of photographs taken in the palace gardens, she wrote: “What an incredible day! So honoured to have been invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace.

“We had the most delicious afternoon tea in the gardens and even finished the day by meeting the Queen (who told us about how a cricket ball almost killed her in 1994) and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Can’t quite believe it all really happened!”

Sadly, the name of the Queen’s saviour was never revealed, but royal fans are sure to hope a knighthood might be bestowed on this brave bodyguard for his valour.

Miss Stafford was invited to the exclusive Buckingham Palace garden party after setting up Hospital Love Bundles.

The organisation sends care packages to young adults who are regularity in and out of hospital in order to ease their discomfort and stress.

Miss Stafford also campaigns for improved access to medical cannabis in the UK.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the Queen in the blistering sun yesterday for the lavish garden party.

Kate looked stunning in a summery pink Alexander McQueen dress, shielding herself from the sun in a matching Juliette Botterill hat.

While husband Prince William looked handsome in a black blazer, red tie and grey trousers, accessorising his look with a brown cane.

The Queen was dressed in a pastel blue Stuart Parvin dress coat and Rachel Trevor Morgan hat.

Around 8,000 people attend the Queen’s annual event, held at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen hosts up to three Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace every summer and will welcome more than 30,000 people to the grounds of Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse over this period.

Around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed at royal garden parties every year.

The first party fell on May 15, and the next ones will be held on May 21 and May 29 which will also be held at Buckingham Palace.

The final one will take place on July 3 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The Queen will be represented by her son, Prince Charles.
