The monarch and her husband are currently isolating at Windsor Castle during the coronavirus lockdown, and are expected to mark Prince Philip’s 99th birthday on 10 June. Her Majesty, who turned 94 in April, has been carrying out her royal duties remotely.

The Queen has been keen to get back to royal life as it once was.

However, it seems the Duke has a few tricks up his sleeve to keep her majesty smiling, and stop her from getting bored.

In fact, Prince Philip has quite a “naughty” sense of humour which constantly has the Queen laughing, an expert claims.

Her Majesty, 94, and The Duke of Edinburgh, 98, have been isolating at Windsor Castle, since he joined her there from Sandringham in March and he has reportedly kept her spirits high throughout lockdown.

Speaking with Hello! magazine Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty Magazine, said that the couple have spent a great deal of time together of late.

The expert says that this is a “silver lining” of the coronavirus.

He also said that the Duke will be supporting her “morally” in the way he always has and that he’s been a great comfort to her during the difficult time.

“He is such an important ingredient in her success and happiness.

“He makes her laugh, he’s got a slightly naughty sense of humour, a sense of the ridiculous that keeps her amused,” he said.

The expert says being so close to the Duke after years of separation comes as great comfort to the Queen.

He added: “She will value that companionship much more than if he were at the other end of a telephone.”

The “very social” Queen has been suddenly cut off from her engagements and face-to-face visits due to the coronavirus crisis.

However, experts claim the Duke will be a “great comfort” for her given the circumstances.

Phil Dampier, author of Prince Philip: Wise words and Golden Gaffes, also pointed out that the Duke has “always had the ability to make [Her Majesty] laugh,” adding that the pair have “the most enormously strong partnership.”

Joe continued: “I think a lot of the strength in the relationship comes from his independent mind.

“He’s not your conventional lovey-dovey husband.

“He’s always been bracing and supportive to the Queen.”

Prince Philip officially retired almost three years ago back in August 2017 at the age of 96.

The Duke of Edinburgh completed an outstanding 22,219 solo engagements since 1952.

He was last pictured at a public event in May 2019, when he attended Lady Gabriella Windsor and Thomas Kingston’s wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The Queen and Prince Philip have been married for nearly 73 years in total.

But since the Duke’s retirement from royal life the couple reportedly spend more time apart.

Since then Philip has enjoyed a break away from the Windsor bubble and is reported to split his time between Buckingham Palace and Wood Farm, Norfolk.

Meanwhile, the Queen remains busy at the official residence of the monarch living separately to her husband until they moved in together ahead of the coronavirus lockdown.
