Caller Dave declared that Londoners should have a voice in selecting London’s next Met Police Commissioner. Dame Cressida Dick was forced out after a tempestuous couple of months for the police and it should now be down to locals to pick who they want to supervise the officers in the capital. The caller then gave the Met a dressing-down for wasting all their energies in which car they “are flying” instead of focussing on the job at hand, which is to guarantee safety and save lives.

Talking to TalkRADIO’s Mike Graham, Dave noted that the Met Police has become “a service” which he does not particularly like as he cried out for it to be “a force” again in case of tragedies.

He urged Sadiq Khan and Home Secretary Priti Patel to reform the electoral proceedings and give Londoners the chance to pick their next police chief from a “full” rather than a “pre-selected” list of possible successors and provided that they “put the right candidates up”.

He said: “If Sadiq Khan, Priti Patel or anybody else in power right now [should] choose the right person.

“I want it given back to the Londoners and we’ll decide from a selection of candidates and not a pre-selected selection of candidates [but] a full selection of candidates!

“As Sadiq Khan just said it’s all about racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, and anything else.

“You can guess what his shortlist is gonna look like, I want a proper shortlist of proper chief constables, put it to people in London and we will decide who our next [Met Police Commissioner will be].

“And by the way I want them to make it the Metropolitan Police Force, not the Metropolitan Police service.

“If I am getting knifed in the street I am not looking for a police service [but] I am looking for a police force.

Dave claimed that while it may be Dame Cressida’s head that rolled, police officers are too preoccupied with which car they are “flying” instead of dealing with issues of paramount importance such as knife crime while the apparent 6 percent of crime “being sold” is misleading as it includes lots of “nonsense “offences.

He said: “They spend more time worrying about whether they are flying the latest version of the LBT or whatever it is than they do focussing on crime!”

“And one other thing, I think you’ve gotta stop using this 6 percent of crimes being sold.

“Don’t forget we’ve created a lot of nonsense crimes now, non-crime hate crimes and when you pile that on of course you’re ending up on 6 percent on average.

“I don’t care if it’s zero percent of non-crime hate crimes so they should call them the waste-of-time crimes.”

Ms Patel said that whoever fills in for the vacant spot must prove to be the real deal as the Londoners’ faith in the police must be reignited after the recent shambles.

She said: “Following a series of appalling incidents and too many historical cases involving serving Met police officers, it is clear that strong and decisive new leadership will be required to restore public confidence in our largest police force.

“The public in London and across the entire country must once again have confidence in the integrity and professionalism of the police officers who serve them.

“Policing culture and conduct have rightly come under scrutiny.

“Be in no doubt that a new leader must tackle these institutional issues.”
