According to the Daily Mail, customers will be encouraged to order beer by an app and pubs will be automatically entitled to serve people outside. The guidelines will also see a ban on self-serve buffets and menus must be discarded after use. Jack Stein, Chef Director at his father Rick Stein’s restaurant chain, told the Telegraph: “It is not just about business, we are British and everyone just wants to go to the pub.

“When we can serve that first piece of turbot and first pint in our pub it will be fantastic and the whole industry will breathe a sigh of relief.”

A Government source has claimed advisors are “totally comfortable” with reducing social distancing to just a metre providing other guidelines are in place.

Hotel guests who fall ill will have to self-isolate in their rooms or homes and the rooms will be cordoned off for 72 hours after they check out.

It is thought the reopening of nightclubs has been harder to arrange, due to difficulties in enforcing social distancing.

Gyms are also not expected to reopen until later in the year.

Ministers will push through legislation next week that allows for easier outdoor dining and drinking as the risk of catching coronavirus is lower outdoors.

This comes as the coronavirus threat level has been reduced to three from four due to reductions in infections, hospital admissions and deaths.

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock described it as “a big moment for the country”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told Sky News: “The British people are working hard to drive it down but we’re starting to make some real progress with test and trace, with treatments for the disease and I hope that as we go forward into the Autumn people will be much more confident.”

It remains unclear when the review into whether social distancing limitations can be reduced will be published.

Germany, Italy and Austria all went for a 1.5 metre rule.

Meanwhile, it is just 1m in places like Denmark, France, China and Singapore.

A total of 301,815 have tested positive.

This is out of over 7.4 million tests.

The Department reminded Britons the social distancing limitation remains at 2m.

They tweeted: “It’s vital that we continue to keep a safe distance from others.

“If you’re heading to the park this evening, make sure to keep 2 metres apart from anyone you don’t live with.”

They also confirmed a new regional test centre had been opened at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

According to the Liverpool Echo, this will be a drive-through site.
