‘Project fear scaremongering’ Cabinet Minister savages leaked no deal chaos report
In the aftermath of the leaked document Operation Yellow Hammer, that warned of a hard Northern Ireland Border and shortages from food to medicine, Kwasi Kwarteng claimed it was more “project fear”. The Tory MP and Cabinet member told Sky News that the UK desperately needed to prepare for a no-deal Brexit. He also insisted that Boris Johnson’s Cabinet would ensure the UK was “fully prepared” to leave the EU without a deal.
Sky News’ Stephen Dixon began by saying: “If we do leave the EU without a deal, according to operation Yellow Hammer, we will have a hard border in Northern Ireland, shortages of food, fuel and medicine.
“That does sound pretty bad, you have got to be honest.”
Mr Kwarteng replied: “I think there is a lot of scaremongering around.
“A lot of people are playing into project fear and all the rest of it.

“We have got to prepare for a no-deal Brexit.
“In fact, the previous Prime Minister created the Department for Exiting the European Union (DEx-EU).
“Theresa May said the mandate of DEx-EU last year was to prepare for no-deal and I was working in that department, that is what we were focussed on.
“Now, we have got a new Prime Minister who is very much focussed on that and the scale and intensity of those preparations are increasing.
“So we will be fully prepared to leave without a deal on the 31st of October.”
Brexit Party Leader Nigel Farage also weighed in on the leak and claimed it was “not believable at all”.
Mr Farage said: “Operation chaos, Whitehall’s secret no-deal plan is leaked. I
“It is all going to be a disaster. We are doomed if we leave without a deal.

“A hard border is going to be put back in Northern Ireland, and it’s marked, Operation Yellowhammer, which is the Government’s no-deal planning official and sensitive.”
He added: “Now, what do I make of all this? I don’t think this is really a Government document at all, I think it’s a civil service document, I call it an Olly Robbins special.
“There is no way the civil service have been neutral through this whole process, they are doing their utmost to stop Brexit.”
The Sunday Times claimed to have full access to the Yellow Hammer document and their front page dubbed it “operation chaos” as they stated “WhiteHalls secret no-deal plan was leaked.
They also insisted The documents set out the most likely aftershocks of a no-deal Brexit rather than worst-case scenarios which some have criticised for feeding into more “scaremongering.”
