Professional footballer suspended after huge fight at Royal Ascot
A Watftord FC footballer has been suspended after apparently becoming involved in a 10-man fight at Ascot.
Reece Miller, 18, is believed to be one of the smartly-dressed people involved in the brawl on Friday when the Queen was at the event.
Wearing a pinstripe suit and flatcap, he is said to be part of the melee and later posed for a picture while holding a story about the fight.
Watford FC confirmed he had been suspended and he will face an inquiry, according to The Sun.
The club said in a statement: ‘We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness. The club will not tolerate any behaviour which tarnishes its image and a full disciplinary investigation is now in process.
‘As soon as the footage was brought to the club’s attention, an immediate decision was taken to suspend the player.
‘He will now face an inquiry with all disciplinary options available to the club. There will be no further comment until the investigation is completed.’
The fight broke out in the Windsor Enclosure, causing distress with one witness saying there had been two fights just a couple of hours earlier.
They said that security had failed to remove the perpetrators behind those fights.
The fight that allegedly involved Miller started when two drunk men bumped into one another and started shoving each other.
Footage from the fight shows a woman falling backwards off her chair after the fight spills over, causing her to land hard on the grass.
A witness said: ‘Two guys started pushing and shoving each other. Then a fight broke out, throwing punches and knocking girls over.
‘I was shocked by it. I couldn’t believe my eyes. You don’t expect to see that at Ascot.’
A spokesman for the Royal Ascot said: ‘The incident was unfortunate and unrepresentative of the overall mood at the racecourse.
‘With over 75,000 people in attendance, sadly it is difficult to eradicate all antisocial behaviour.
‘Our security staff can and do remove people, and we operate a system whereby staff who identify antisocial behaviour give one warning.’
