Princess Kate’s key parenting hack that enables Charlotte to exude ‘confidence
Kate Middleton attends Wimbledon with George and Charlotte
Kate, Princess of Wales, can take credit for Princess Charlotte’s confidence when in the spotlight, a leading body language expert has claimed
Judi James, the author of the 2010 book The You Code, examined both for telling signs when they attended Wimbledon earlier this month.
Kate was seen sitting in the Royal Box with the eight-year-old Princess, Prince George, and Prince William as Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic following a nail-biting five-set match.
Charlotte seemed happy and confident as she was seen cheering, smiling and clapping during the match and was taken by Kate, who is the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, to meet and greet staff at the SW19 event.
Ms James believes Charlotte growing confidence, evident in these situations, can be attributed to the Prince and Princess of Wales bringing her up as “normally” as possible, inspired by Kate’s own childhood.

The author of 26 books told OK! Magazine that the Princess is taking moments in the spotlight such as Wimbledon in her “stride”, akin to her mother.
She explained: “She’s reaping the benefit of Kate and William’s determination to give them all as normal, rounded and secure a childhood as possible – emulating Kate’s early years.
“Some of Kate’s natural confidence stems from that happy childhood and, perhaps, the broad experience of life she gained during her very early years when she lived in Jordan.”
Kate was just two years old when the Middletons moved to Jordan as Kate’s father Michael was posted there with British Airways and she was sent to an English-language nursery school.
The Middletons lived in the Middle Eastern country until September 1986 when they moved back to Berkshire after Michael’s posting ended.

Ms James believes the Royal Family’s Wimbledon trip demonstrated how Kate is mentoring her only daughter for the future that lies ahead.
Kate could be seen stroking Charlotte’s face, chatting to her during breaks in play and placing her hand on her chair.
She also made introductions to staff while explaining everything that was going on to Charlotte, giving her daughter a full royal induction with Kate’s “encouraging approach” suggesting she wants to “inspire her daughter to be as passionate about the game as she is”.
The Princess explained to Ella Ottaway, who runs the All England Club’s young people programme that it was Charlotte’s first time, adding that the little Princess had been “getting to grips with scoring”.
She continued: “Watching Kate’s Wimbledon outing with Charlotte gave us a glimpse into how she’s actively mentoring her daughter for royal life. Their mother/daughter relationship is maturing into a lovely friendship, similar to William’s relationship with their son, George.
“And it was lovely to see how both Charlotte and Kate behaved like fans rather than royals during the match, with Charlotte, in particular, letting rip when it came to cheering Alcaraz to victory.
The bonds between Kate and Charlotte are visible from the natural – and often subliminal – mirroring, which shows them in similar poses and using similar gestures too.”
For example, Charlotte would use a “cut-off ritual”, such as putting both hands over her face, which Ms James explained was a “direct mimicry of her mother”.
Not only has Charlotte inherited Kate’s confidence, but Ms James believes she also has her “competitiveness” and “tendency to lead”.
She added: “She currently has more freedom to be spontaneous in public and celebrated Alcaraz’s win by throwing both arms up into the air and appearing to ‘roar’.
“Kate’s fully tuned into her daughter. This synchronicity between them means she knows when to back off and when to encourage Charlotte’s freedom and growing independence.”
