Princess Kate’s candid remark about being a mum and what makes her feel guilty

Make no mistake – being a parent is tough.

Some people own up to the challenges that you can face as a mum or dad whereas others gloss over the more gruelling details.

Princess Kate is someone who chooses to be open with others about how hard parenting little ones can be – including to author Omid Scobie who has written about an interaction with her in his new book Endgame, published yesterday, Tuesday, November 28.

He writes: “I remember having a similar conversation with Kate at a Kensington Palace media reception after the birth of Princess Charlotte in 2015, one in which she spoke about the challenges of parenting.

“I look at my friends and think they have it all figured it out . . . while I’m just making it up as I go along,” she said with a laugh.

“I always thought this more frank, real side of the sometimes Stepford-like royal wife was something that others should see more of.”

And it’s not the first time that Princess Kate has been open about finding motherhood difficult.

She appeared on Giovanna Fletcher’s podcast Happy Mum, Happy Baby and talked about her life as a parent to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Kate, 41, was asked by Ms Fletcher if she experienced mum guilt. Kate replied: “Yes absolutely – anyone who doesn’t as a mother is actually lying.

“Yep – all the time. Even this morning, coming to the nursery visit here – George and Charlotte were like ‘Mummy how could you possibly not be dropping us off at school this morning?’

“It’s a constant challenge – you hear it time after time from mums, even mums who aren’t necessarily working and aren’t pulled in the directions of having to juggle work life and family life.”

Ms Fletcher admitted that knowing Kate’s parenting struggles are similar to hers has helped her feel “less alone”.

Endgame includes an array of bombshell claims about the Royals – some of them more difficult for The Firm to shoulder than others.

It was originally due to be published in August but the date was pushed back so as to include events surrounding the King’s Coronation. Publisher HarperCollins has said the book will “have the world talking”.
