He soon got changed into his polo gear and took to the pitch, wearing his team colours of white and navy, with the sleeve number in a bright red.

Pictures showed the heir to the throne in the saddle chatting away with the players just before the match commenced.

Kate meanwhile stood on the sidelines holding a glass of bubbly as she watched her husband compete.

Today’s game is set to raise over £1million for this year’s 11 charities, which are SHOUT, Wales Air Ambulance, Centrepoint, The Passage, Foundling Museum, Forward Trust, Mountain Rescue England & Wales, East Anglia Children’s Hospices, Little Village, AberNecessities and Baby Basics.

Since the Prince of Wales first started playing in the Cup in 2006 the match has raised over £11million, with William choosing to participate each year thanks to the incredible funds it raises.

The Windsor club where the match is being hosted is closely associated with the royals, as both Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth have served as its Royal Patron.

At last year’s match William was greeted after the game with a kiss on the cheek from Kate, who was dressed in a casual yet elegant dress from one of her favourite designers Emilia Wickstead.

She was accompanied by the family’s spaniel Orla as she took in the game with a glass of Pimms in her hand.

Kate was clearly in an affectionate mood on the day as she was spotted fussing over and stroking the dog as William played, before the couple walked off with their arms around each other after she presented him with the trophy in the event.

In 2017 William competed in the Jerudong Trophy charity polo match at Cirencester Park Polo Club with his brother Prince Harry, who used to be his regular companion during the game.

It’s been a sporty week for the royals as Kate attended Wimbledon earlier this week, where she took in the action at Centre Court accompanied by tennis legend Roger Federer and his wife Mirka.

The pair, who have been friends for some time, appeared to get on splendindly, with one body language expert noting Kate was in “awe” of him.

The Princess of Wales is a regular fixture at the tournament every year as she is Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

However she was sadly forced to miss out in 2013, the year Andy Murray famously won his first Wimbledon title, as doctors banned her from attending due to her being in the last weeks of her pregnancy with Prince George.
