Princess Kate and Duchess Sophie’s unwavering friendship laid bare
Queen: Kate, Camilla and Sophie emotionally watch coffin
Both the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh are popular members of the Royal Family.
As well as being family by blood, it is thought the pair are close friends with Sophie supporting Kate on her royal journey, having joined the Firm more than ten years before the Princess.
The former Countess of Wessex, who previously worked in PR and had her own agency, joined the royal fold in 1999 when she tied the knot with Prince Edward.
When Kate married the future King 12 years later, the 58-year-old took the new royal under her wing, helping her learn the ropes, having been a full-time working royal alongside her husband since 2002.
Revered body language expert Judi James previously told Express.co.uk that the Duchess can often be seen watching over the 41-year-old in a semi-maternal fashion.

She said in 2020: “Many of the poses of the two women together show Sophie face-checking Kate with quite strong bouts of watchful-looking eye contact to suggest she’s taking a semi-maternal approach…
“There is some mirroring when the two women walk together but it’s primarily Sophie projecting the stronger signals of relaxed confidence while Kate smiles happily at her side.”
It is no surprise that the pair seem to get along so well as they have several mutual interests.

The two mothers love sport with the Princess of Wales favouring tennis and sailing meanwhile the Duchess loves skiing and horseriding. Both have spent a great deal of time championing wheelchair sports with Sophie being a patron of British Wheelchair Basketball.
Kate and Sophie also adore fashion and appear to have similar taste. Designer Donna Ida revealed in 2019 that the Duchess bought a jumpsuit from her brand and specifically asked for the Princess to get one as well, the Daily Mail reported at the time.
Not only this but they also have other common causes including working with children and young people’s charities.
Both had humble upbringings when compared to their royal husbands. Sophie Rhys-Jones, as she was known before marriage, was born to a salesman father and a secretary mother who also worked for a charity.
Before they embarked on their Party Pieces business, which became highly lucrative, the Princess’s parents worked for British Airways.
Much like many members of the Royal Family before and since, Kate and Sophie received a great deal of attention from the press which resulted in their respective husbands intervening.
Luckily they have each other to lean on to weather whatever storm may come their way, whether that be family drama or even smaller hiccups such as when Sophie helped stop Kate from embarrassment when her dress flew up during Princess Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank.
