Kate was widely hailed a “peacemaker” by royal watchers after she was spotted helping break the ice between Prince William and Prince Harry after the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip. This move came in April last year, just weeks after the groundbreaking interview of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with Oprah Winfrey was first aired.

However, in the wake of Princess Eugenie’s visit to Prince Harry in California, one royal commentator believes the younger daughter of Sarah Ferguson may take on the title of royal peacemaker and help bring bridge the gap between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family.

Royal expert Jennie Bond told OK! magazine: “Hopefully, Eugenie can be the peacemaker.

“I’m absolutely certain Eugenie and Harry are still as close.

“I think we all thought Kate would be the peacemaker, certainly at the funeral of Philip when she was engineering a chat between Harry and William.

“But I think if there is a peacemaker, it will be Eugenie.”

Eugenie and Harry have historically shared a close bond.

The pair grew up going on family skiing holidays together in the 1990s.

They later shared the same London party set in their 20s.

Princess Eugenie has also been pivotal in some of Harry’s love stories, as she introduced him to Cressida Bonas, one of his ex serious girlfriends.

And, after he met Meghan Markle, Eugenie was reportedly one of the first people within the Royal Family Harry confided to his new romance.

Eugenie and Harry’s relationship seems to have been untouched by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down as senior royals in the first quarter of 2020.

In August, after Meghan launched her 40×40 mentorship initiative to mark her 40th birthday, Eugenie announced on Instagram she was taking part in it.

And on Sunday she became the first-ever member of the Royal Family to have been spotted visiting the Duke across the pond since his relocation to California.

Highlighting their good relationship, Ms Bond said: “I think Eugenie and Harry have probably been in touch with each other throughout this whole crisis.

“This may not even be his first meeting, it’s interesting they were willing to be seen in public together.”

She added: “It could be that [Eugenie and Jack] are staying with Harry and Meghan.

“It can only be a positive thing.”

Prince Harry himself addressed his strained bond with some members of the Royal Family during multiple public appearances in 2021.

In particular, he spoke about a trying relationship with his father Prince Charles and stated he and his brother William will always love one another but are on different paths.

However, the Duke of Sussex stressed his relationship with the Queen remains good and, speaking to both Ms Winfrey and James Corden, he revealed he often talks to her via video link or phone.

In June, Meghan and Harry honoured the Queen by calling their daughter Lilibet – the monicker given to the sovereign by her grandfather King George V and widely used by her late husband during their seven-decade long marriage.

Lili, as the Sussexes’ daughter has been nicknamed, was also given Diana as a second name, a tribute to Harry and William’s beloved late mother.

The birth of Lili, claims Harry desires to have her christened in Windsor and a possible trip of the family-of-four to the UK to mark the Platinum Jubilee have raised hopes among royal watcher the rift between the Sussexes and the Firm could be healed.
