Eugenie today marks her 31st birthday, and her first as a mother, after she recently welcomed first son August Philip to the world. The Royal Family commemorated the occasion by publishing a picture of Eugenie while she attended the third day of Royal Ascot two years ago, alongside the caption: “Wishing Princess Eugenie a very happy birthday today!” The Queen’s official account added a couple of balloon emojis to round off their message.

Her Majesty shares a close bond with Eugenie, as does her husband Prince Philip, who has recently had a long spell in hospital after receiving treatment for a pre-existing medical condition.

Eugenie celebrated her bond with “Granny” and “Grandpa” by including the Duke of Edinburgh’s name when they announced their first child had joined the Royal Family.

Prior to entering motherhood, Eugenie – and her sister Princess Beatrice – earned a reputation as being ‘party princesses’, known for their love of having a good time, and attending music festivals.

And in accordance with her love of a good party, Eugenie appeared to channel her inner princess when she invited guests to join in the celebrations for her 25th birthday, six years ago.

Insiders claimed Eugenie “didn’t want competition” from other attendees to her Disney-themed bash at her parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s home at Royal Lodge, Windsor.

The party saw guests wear an array of colourful outfits, including Disney princess, Woody from Toy Story and the scary title character from Beauty and the Beast.

Eugenie herself opted to dress as Snow White and, a friend told the Daily Mail at the time, she even hired seven dwarfs to follow her around all night.

The friend said: “She has even written on the invitation that no one else is allowed to come as Snow White, presumably because she doesn’t want any competition.

“But with seven dwarfs running after her, I don’t think there is any chance of that happening.”

Outlandish parties appear to be cherished by the royals, particularly with the younger members of the world’s most recognisable family.

Eugenie’s cousin, Prince William, once decided to hold an African-themed fancy dress party for his 21st birthday, while Eugenie marked her 18th with a Victorian-themed masked ball.

For her 31st birthday last year, Beatrice hosted a vegan dinner party, where guests helped themselves to a variety of plant-based delights, while Prince Harry celebrated his 30th with a ski-themed party at Clarence House.

Eugenie’s full name was announced as Eugenie Victoria Helena, when she was born at London’s Portland Hospital in 1990.

In a move away from royal tradition, her mother – affectionately known as Fergie – ensured Eugenie became the first royal to have a public christening.

Eugenie also welcomed her own child at the same hospital earlier this year.

After August Philip Hawke Brooksbank was born, Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming Eugenie and her husband Jack’s baby arrived safely, weighing 8lbs 1oz.

It added: “The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.

“This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, the Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

August is currently 11th-in-line to the throne.

When Eugenie’s cousin Harry and his wife Meghan Markle welcome their second child, August will move to 12th-in-line to the throne.
