Since the Sussexes announced their decision to quit the monarchy, many have speculated as to what the reaction was like from his close family members. One person who would have been happily accepted the prince’s choice to walk away is claimed to be his mother Diana, who suffered her own harsh struggle under the spotlight.
After her separation from Prince Charles, the newly independent Princess Diana began to share her experiences with the press, during the doomed royal marriage.
Diana openly expressed her sadness at the continued harassment she suffered from the media as she tried to give her two sons a “normal” life.
She tried her utmost to ensure that Prince William and Prince Harry attended a public school at her insistence.
The princess also took the children on family vacations, volunteer trips, amusement parks and fast-food restaurants.
“I’ve taken the children to all sorts of areas where I’m not sure anyone of that age in this family has been before,” she told BBC in 1995.
“And they have knowledge – they may never use it, but the seed is there, and I hope it will grow because knowledge is power.”
However, despite her best efforts, the young princes were never quite out of the headlines.
As Harry, in particular, grew older, he began to feel resentful about the intrusion from the press.
In an interview last year on ITV, Prince Harry revealed the effect his royal lifestyle had won his mental health, which he said required “constant management”
He revealed: “I thought I was out of the woods and then suddenly it all came back, and this is something that I have to manage.
“Part of this job is putting on a brave face but, for me and my wife, there is a lot of stuff that hurts, especially when the majority of it is untrue.”

The comments from the prince about the intense media scrutiny he faced, comes as last week his wife Meghan Markle took the Mail on Sunday to court, over claims they unlawfully published one of her letters.
Harry is adamant that his son Archie Harrison will not grow up with the same pressures, therefore upon his birth, the Sussex couple made the decision not to give him a royal title.
Instead, they made the decision to move across to Los Angeles for a “financially independent” life where they will now work to fund themselves without any royal backing.
So far there have been very few photographs of Archie, in comparison with his royal cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
In a leaked phone call, Harry said the decision to leave the royal family was the “right” one.
He revealed: “Sometimes the right decision isn’t always the easy one,
“And this decision certainly wasn’t the easy one but it was the right decision for our family, the right decision to be able to protect my son.”
Although Diana is no longer with us, royal fans believe she would have supported Harry’s separation from the monarchy.
After her own split from Prince Charles, the princess sought to build her own life for herself.
“Over the next few months, I will be seeking a more suitable way of combining a meaningful public role with, hopefully, a more private life,” she said in 1993 at a benefit lunch for the Headway National Injuries Association.
