Mr Reynolds had previously claimed the Princess of Wales sent him the note after his controversial divorce from Loni Anderson. The late legendary actor said Diana thanked him for keeping her out of the glare of the press for a little while.

Speaking to US TV programme ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen’, Ms Anderson confirmed that Mr Reynolds’ claims were true.

A viewer asked Ms Anderson: “Is it true that Princess Diana once sent a thank you note to Burt because your split kept her out of the tabloid covers for a bit?”

She responded: “Yes, that’s true.”

Presenter Andy Cohen reacted surprised and said: “No way – that’s incredible!”

Ms Anderson and Mr Reynolds had a bitter divorce after their five-year marriage in 1993.

Their split is thought to have taken some of the focus away from Diana whose tensions with the Royal Family were heavily reported in the media.

Three years after Ms Anderson and Mr Reynolds’ split, Diana and her husband Prince Charles divorced.

Mr Reynolds died in 2018 and made the claim about the ‘Thank you’ note in his 2015 memoir, ‘But enough About Me’.

According to People Magazine, he wrote: “Princess Diana sent me a ‘Thank you’ note for keeping her off the cover of People Magazine.”

Diana spoke out about her experience within the Royal Family and under the glare of the media.

During the infamous interview with the BBC’s Martin Bashir, the Princess of Wales said: “My husband [Prince Charles] and I, we were told when we got engaged that the media would go quietly, and it didn’t, and then when we were married they said it would go quietly and it didn’t.

“And then it started to focus very much on me, and I seemed to be on the front of a newspaper every single day, which is an isolating experience, and the higher the media put you, place you, the bigger the drop.

“And I was very aware of that.”

Diana told the journalist that she felt like a “good product that sits on a shelf and sells well and people make a lot of money out of you”.

The late royal also explained how her experience was “isolating”.

The princess went on to say that “the pressure on us both as a couple with the media was phenomenal, and misunderstood by a great many people.”

Diana and Charles’ second son Prince Harry recently spoke out about his own experience under the media’s glare during the explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down with the US chat show legend for a tell-all discussion watched by millions across the world.

Referring to Diana’s experience in the Royal Family, Harry told Oprah: “My biggest concern was history repeating itself.”

He added: “For me I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here talking to you with my wife by my side.

“Because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back as senior members of the Royal Family last year.
