On what is the 24th anniversary of her tragic passing, royal fans across the world took to Twitter to pay tribute to the “People’s Princess”. In gushing tributes, many praised Diana for the impact she had on the world during her life. One person said: “It’s also the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, an absolutely magnificent woman who pushed for so much change in the world.

“Rest in Peace Diana.”

The former boxer Frank Bruno also said: “Morning it was 24 years ago we were waking up to the News of the passing of Princess Diana when I see her boys I still think I wonder what Diana would be saying or thinking.

“I spent lots of time in her company great fun, cheeky, loved a joke very much down to earth sadly missed.”

A third said: “My mum said it will be like when president Kennedy died and you will always remember where you were when you heard the news.

“She was right.”

A fourth person added: “I remember it like it was yesterday.

“I was 14 years old and I thought she was the most beautiful lady in the world.”

Diana died at the age of 36, due to the injuries she suffered from a car crash in Paris.

Dodi Fayed and the driver of the car, Henri Paul also died at the scene.

Diana’s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones survived the crash but was seriously injured.

Following her death, royals flans flocked to Buckingham Palace where it is thought 60 million flowers were left at the gates.

The anniversary of her death will be marked by allowing the public to view the newly unveiled statue of Diana in Kensington Gardens.

The statue was unveiled by Princes William, 39, and Harry, 36, on July in the Palace’s Sunken Gardens.

The ceremony was the first time the pair had been pictured together since Prince Philip’s funeral in April.

They said: “We remember her love, strength and character.

“Qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.”

Now the Kensington Palace has opened up the Gardens via the Cradle Walk in order for visitors to see the statue.

Historic Royal Palaces said: “We acknowledge that there will be interest in viewing the statue on that day.

“So we will be providing access to the Cradle Walk which is essentially the beautiful walkway around the Sunken Garden.

“We will be opening that up, freely available, for passers-by or anybody who wants to stop and take a moment on that Tuesday, especially for the anniversary.”

Entry to the Cradle Walk will be free and visitors will not be required to make a booking.

Visitors, however, will not be able to leave flowers at the base of the statue.

The Historic Royal Palace added: “We didn’t want to take the shine away from the Golden Gates, and from the kind of tributes that we know will be there.

“It’s special for the group to have that kind of moment.”
