Princess Charlotte in line for prestigious title thanks to Prince Philip
Princess Charlotte could be set to inherit a prestigious title thanks to a kind gesture from her late great-grandfather Prince Philip.
Thanks to Prince Philip, Princess Charlotte is set to become Duchess of Edinburgh, but she could also inherit the title of Princess Royal currently held by Princess Anne.
The title is usually given to the oldest daughter of the monarch, which is why the title is currently held by Princess Anne.
She would inherit the title if Princess Anne died and her father Prince William became King, following the abdication or death of King Charles.
After this has happened, Prince George will receive the Prince of Wales title, and his younger brother, Louis, is likely to get either the Duke of Cambridge or the Duke of York title.

This could change, however, if King Charles gets his wish to streamline the monarchy, reducing it to “core members”.
There can only be one Princess Royal at a time and so far seven royals have held the title including Princess Mary, the eldest daughter of King Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria, who was the first to hold it.
Princess Anne did not receive the title until she was 36 in 1987.

Prior to that, the title was held by Queen Camilla and before her Queen Elizabeth II was known as ‘Her Royal Highness The Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh’.
