Princess Charlene has been absent from Monaco for over six months. She is currently being treated in a “private facility” for “mental and physcial” exhaustion. With Charlene’s absence, other royals have been forced to step up. Last week Albert took twins Gabriella and Jacques to Monaco’s Christmas village. He was joined by his sister, Princess Caroline, as well as her son Pierre Casiraghi and his wife, Beatrice Borromeo.
Royal expert Lydia Starbuck and senior reporter Jess Ilse discussed the situation in Monaco on the Royal Central podcast.
They said: “We won’t see her at one of the events that I always enjoy. When they hand out the little gift bags to the elderly in Monaco.
“That’s something that she actually always seems to enjoy doing each year, and the little Christmas party they have with the kids.
“So those are two events in December that she’ll be missing out on but I’m sure that either Caroline or Stephanie and or their kids will step in and take part in that alongside Albert.

“They really do have some nice Christmas events and a really nice Christmas party.
“I remember the Smurfs being there one year and it’s just like one of those events where you see her kind of light up and certainly and seems to really enjoy interacting with people at that event.
“So we’re just really hoping that she can get back to those kinds of things soon and you can see her back and doing well.”
Today the Princess has broken her silence after being admitted to a treatment facility with “emotional and physical exhaustion.”

She shared photos of her twins Gabriella and Jacques on Instagram, who celebrated their 7th birthday on Friday.
She wrote: “Happy birthday my babies. Thank you God for blessing me with such wonderful children. I’m truly blessed. Love mom.”
Prince Albert gave an insight into the situation when he said: “For me, it’s pretty simple – my priority is my family.
“Of course, without neglecting state affairs… I hope everyone understands that. When I can be with my kids, I do it without hesitation.

“This is an extremely important time in their life – the way they grow up helps them see the world.
“And if one of the parents is away for medical reasons, the other parent has to be there.
“I have heard too many friends and acquaintances telling me that they wish they had been there for their children, at a certain age, taken up by their work or their professional life. I don’t want to have these regrets.”
It is unknown when Princess Charlene will return to Monaco.
