Princess Charlene, 43, tied the knot with Prince Albert of Monaco, 63, in 2011 at the principality’s Palais Princier. Since their wedding day, the ex-Olympic swimmer has been snapped with all sorts of glitzy jewellery and chic clothes.

However, eagle-eyed fans of the principality’s royal family have spotted she is often missing one gem.

Her three-carat gold engagement ring.

During the couple’s honeymoon years, Charlene was unsurprisingly seen flaunting her handcrafted pear-cut diamond ring on most occasions.

The Zimbabwean-born royal wore her ring at the Monaco National Day Gala in 2012 and continued to do so when she appeared on the Prince’s Palace’s balcony during Monaco Day Celebrations in 2017.

However, two years later, snaps showed Charlene frequently opted to remove the engagement ring or cover her jewellery by wearing gloves.

The Princess was seen without the ring when the British-born racing driver Lewis Hamilton won the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2019.

Even during a Christmas gift distribution event in Monte Carlo in 2020, when Charlene had a partially shaved head, she yet again opted not to wear her engagement ring.

The 43-year-old has spent the last few months in her native South Africa after suffering from severe sinus problems.

Throughout her return to the Rainbow Nation, Charlene reportedly appeared to remove her three-carat engagement ring from her ring finger.

While in South Africa, Charlene even missed her 10th wedding anniversary to Prince Albert, raising questions over the strength of their marriage.

The Telegraph has claimed the Princess’ departure coincided with her husband’s paternity suit over a love child, which was supposedly born in the early stages of their relationship.

Albert hit back at the rumours his marriage was on the rocks and insisted his wife “didn’t leave in a huff” but has stayed in South Africa following “medical complications”.

He told the People magazine: “She didn’t leave Monaco in a huff! She didn’t leave because she was mad at me or at anybody else… She didn’t go into exile.

“It was absolutely just a medical problem which had to be treated.”

Albert and the couple’s twins, six-year-old Jacques and Gabriella, flew out to see Charlene in August in what many considered an attempt to prove their relationship wasn’t lying in the balance.

But a French women’s weekly magazine Madame Figaro questioned the sincerity of the trip.

They said they wanted the “malaise” surrounding their marital situation to be cleared up and suggested their “strained embrace” had “failed to convince the Monegasques”.

Madame Figaro also asked: “How long can she remain away from her children, her duties?

“How long will the fight against rhinoceros poaching remain the Princess of Monaco’s top priority?

“How long will Albert II of Monaco go on bearing this affront, which is becoming ridiculous?”

Despite such comments, the principality’s Prince has since declared Charlene is “ready to come home” and suggested she could return to Monaco later this month.
