Princess Beatrice wedding: Why Bea’s nuptials will change the Royal Family dynamic

The Royal Family is undergoing rapid changes at the moment, with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announcing their plans to “step back” from their roles as senior royals. Another major change is scheduled for later this year, when the eldest York sister, Princess Beatrice, will be walking down the aisle.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding will mark another in a series of royal weddings over the last decade.

But in some major ways, Princess Beatrice’s wedding is sure to be different from the royal weddings we have seen in the past.

For the weddings of Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooskbank, millions tuned in to watch the royal couple’s nuptials broadcast to the world.

However, Beatrice’s wedding is already swaying from this tradition, with both ITV and BBC confirming they will not be televising Princess Beatrice’s wedding this year.

The exact date of Princess Beatrice’s wedding is yet to be announced, but many have also speculated she will be having a slimmed-down wedding, which would be very different from the lavish royal weddings we have witnessed in the past.

A friend told the Daily Mail last year: “There have been three big Royal weddings there in the past year or so and I’m not sure that’s what Bea wants.

“Edo has a child, there’s the situation with his ex, and Beatrice might just feel something more low-key might be more fitting.”

Following the wedding, both Princess Beatrice and husband Edo could take other steps to change the current dynamic within the Royal Family.

Traditionally, those who married into the Royal Family receive a title from the Queen.

However, recent additions to the family, such as Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank, appear to have declined such titles.

It could well be that Princess Beatrice’s husband would decide the same.

And in light of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s shock announcement, it has been suggested that Princess Beatrice may be called into help shoulder some of the burden of royal engagements in their place.

  • Princess Beatrice job: What does Princess Beatrice do?

Whereas traditionally royals would commit full-time to their royal roles, completing engagements on behalf of the Crown, this is unlikely to be the case for Beatrice and Edo.

Princess Beatrice is not currently considered a ‘working royal’.

Both Beatrice and Edoardo have professional business careers, with Beatrice serving as Vice President of software company Afiniti, and Edo founding his own property company, Banda, and there has been no indication either will be giving up these roles after marriage.

Another major change for the couple will be the addition of Edoardo’s son Wolfie, from a previous relationship.

Beatrice will become a stepmother to Wolfie, and he may play a major role within the family’s life.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has two children born prior to her marriage to Prince Charles.

But as both children were adults at the time of their mother’s remarriage, they are not frequently spotted at royal events.

However, given that Wolfie is only two, he could be a much more prominent addition to the Royal Family.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine told Insider: “I’m sure on occasions when there is a gathering of the York family, Beatrice’s stepson will quite possibly be included.

“However, we haven’t seen much of Camilla’s children or grandchildren, apart from when she married Prince Charles.”

Since Beatrice and Edo announced last year they were engaged to be married, few details of their impending nuptials have been released.

However, many are speculating Beatrice could opt for a summer wedding.
