Princess Beatrice, 31, married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 37, in a ceremony that was kept secret from the public last Friday, July 17. The wedding took place at All Saints Chapel in Windsor a short distance from Bea’s family home. Only a handful of photos from the low-key day have been shared with the public and none of them feature Bea’s father Prince Andrew, 60, mother Sarah Ferguson, 60, or sister Princess Eugenie, 30.

While Beatrice is incredibly close to her immediate family, one royal commentator has claimed to know why they did not feature in her official wedding snaps.

The only photo released of Beatrice with wedding guests is one with her grandparents – Prince Philip, 99, and Queen Elizabeth II, 94.

The reasons for this are two-fold according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams who believes there were practical and publicity challenges.

Mr Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The wedding of Princess Beatrice to Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Windsor was certainly a surprise.”

“It has been recorded for posterity by the release of a series of photographs which are enchanting.

“They were also in the unenviable position of having to postpone what was originally planned as rather a grand wedding in May, owing to the pandemic.”

Mr Fitzwilliams claimed the ongoing scandal surrounding Prince Andrew’s friendship with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein would have risked overshadowing Beatrice’s big day if he had appeared in the official photos.

He said: “Also the controversy which continues to surround Andrew made any public appearance by him unwise.”

As the wedding was held in keeping with Government guidelines, social-distancing may have posed challenges when it came to getting a group shot.

Mr Fitzwilliams added: “The decision, therefore, to concentrate on the happy couple and Beatrice’s grandparents in the photographs released to the public was an excellent one, as well as the only practical one.

“Aided by fabulous floral backgrounds, they looked extremely happy together.”

Mr Fitzwilliams dubbed the Queen and Duke’s presence at the wedding as “the real coup”.

Bea’s big day was the first time the couple have been out in public in months as they had been isolating at Windsor Castle since March.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The real coup, however, was the presence of the Queen and Prince Philip and, at 99, he looked in splendid form and is involved in a ceremony on Wednesday when the Duchess of Cornwall replaces him as Colonel-in-Chief of the Rifles.

“Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank were present, but did not appear in any of the photos either.”

Mr Fitzwilliams claimed the selection of photos shared with the public was designed to avoid any controversy.

He added: “Since this wedding was a well-kept secret, this choice of photographs made total sense.

“If Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who live together at nearby Royal Lodge, had been included in them there would have been instant controversy.

“It was a tiny gathering and in accordance with government guidelines.

“They will undoubtedly celebrate later.

“Meanwhile the way this was handled made total sense.”
