Princess Beatrice wedding: Heartbreaking reason eldest York chose ‘isolated’ venue exposed

Princess Beatrice and fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi confirmed earlier this year they had picked the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace as the location for the Royal Wedding 2020. The eldest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York is believed to have been forced to postpone the ceremony on several occasions, particularly because of the scandal surrounding Prince Andrew’s relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The criticism aimed at her father may have pushed Princess Beatrice and Edo to ensure their wedding could not be disrupted by picking a rather “isolated” location, royal expert Marlene Koenig suggested.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Ms Koenig said: “One of the reasons I said it’s going to be Chapel Royal.

“And people said, ‘it’s so isolated.’ Exactly.”

She continued: “The reason why Chapel Royal is a good fit it’s because there is no public access to it.

“There’s no way there could be people in the crowd to boo Prince Andrew.”

The latest royal weddings, which included Prince Harry’s, Princess Eugenie’s and Lady Gabriella Windsor’s, have tended to be grand affairs where the public was able to cheer the couples.

But Princess Beatrice is believed to have wanted a smaller ceremony to start with, which would also explain why the royal selected a location where only up to 150 guests would fit.

Ms Koenig however insisted Beatrice and her younger sister Eugenie should not be made to suffer because of backlash aimed at Prince Andrew.

She added: “He needs to be a royal pariah for a very long time, but I think it’s incredibly unfair that those sins should ever rest upon his daughters.”

Following a controversial interview with BBC Newsnight last November, the Duke of York agreed to temporarily step down from his official roles for the time being.

Prince Andrew was however expected to step up to his family role and escort his eldest daughter down the aisle on May 29.

But with the ongoing coronavirus outbreak bringing the country to a standstill, Beatrice and Edo have once again been forced to postpone their wedding.

Buckingham Palace confirmed last month the reception the Queen was planning to throw in the couple’s honour had to be cancelled to heed Government advice on social distancing.

The Church of England then introduced new rules on the number of people allowed to attend wedding ceremonies – bringing the total of potential guests taking part in Beatrice and Edo’s ceremony down to a total of five.

Princess Beatrice would also have to renounce having her grandmother the Queen and Prince Philip at the wedding due to the elderly couple currently being kept at Windsor Castle to limit their risks of catching the disease.

Princess Anne, the bride’s aunt, is also considered to be a category at risk as she is nearing 70 and Prince Charles is recuperating in Scotland after contracting the virus in March.

A spokesman for the couple told PEOPLE earlier this week: “There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding.

“They aren’t even thinking about their wedding at this time. There will come a time to rearrange, but that’s not yet.”

They added: “The invitations were never actually sent out.”
