Princess Beatrice and Edo could not sing the national anthem on their wedding day, it has been confirmed. The eldest daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew married in total secrecy her fiancee Edordo, also known as Edo, on Friday, after their nuptials had been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The loved-up couple decided not to wait for all the lockdown measures to be lifted and celebrated their nuptials at the small All Saints Chapel in Windsor, just a few minutes away from Andrew and Sarah’s home – the Royal Lodge.

To do so, the couple had to abide by a number of social distancing measures, including breaking with tradition and not singing hymns and the national anthem.

Government restrictions issued to let wedding ceremonies take place again in England state guests at nuptials aren’t allowed to sing.

This is because it is feared the exhalation required in the process could increase the changes of spreading COVID-19.

This meant Beatrice, Edo and their 20 guests could not pay tribute to the monarch by singing the national anthem.

However, Britain’s anthem was still featured at the wedding, as musicians in attendance played, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

A palace spokesman told the Daily Mirror: “In accordance with Government guidelines, no hymns were sung, but a selection of music was played.

“The National Anthem was played – but not sung.”

Princess Beatrice and Edo are said to have set their wedding date bearing in mind the Queen’s availability.

A friend of the couple told The Sun just how important it was for them to count the monarch and Prince Philip among their guests.

They said: “A massive wedding was out of the question because of coronavirus.

“They were obviously very keen for the Queen to come so the wedding had to happen before she goes up to Balmoral so this was a great opportunity.”

In planning their secret wedding in Windsor, Princess Beatrice and Edo had to make sure their guests could practice social distancing.

This means only close relatives and friends were allowed to attend, with some 20 people believed to have taken part in the ceremony.

The source added: “So many guests were disappointed not to make the big day but understood the reason for it.

“They needed to make the wedding COVID-secure and safe for the Queen so what better way than the All Saints Chapel with reception on site at the Royal Lodge.

“They are just like a normal family and had to make sacrifices like many others have up and down the country and looking forward to having a wonderful celebration when the time is right.”

Princess Beatrice and Edo announced their engagement via a Buckingham Palace statement in September last year.

The couple were due to marry at the Chapel Royal in St James’s Palace on May 29.

However, the Church of England suspended any ceremony or gathering apart from funerals after the Government issued a nationwide lockdown.

Beatrice and Edo are believed to have planned a honeymoon – but its details are being kept private.
