Princess Beatrice today announced she is engaged to her boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. The ninth in line to the throne will marry Mr Mapelli Mozzi next year after the couple got engaged in Italy earlier this month. The Queen’s second-oldest son Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson today released a statement announcing the engagement and revealing details for the upcoming royal wedding. But what will the besotted princess call herself after her royal wedding to Edo Mapelli Mozzi?

Princess Beatrice today announced she would be marrying her boyfriend of one year Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, affectionately known as Edo.

The couple has been dating for roughly a year, but have known each other for much longer as their families are friends.

In fact, when Edo’s step-father Christopher Shale passed away suddenly in 2011, Beatrice attended the funeral alongside her parents.

Having built up a rapport over the years, the couple’s relationship appears to have moved very quickly, especially compared to Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie who dated husband Jack Brooksbank for several years before they became engaged.

In a statement released today, Princess Beatrice and Mr Mapelli Mozzi said: “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.

“We share so many similar interests and values, and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

The Duke and Duchess of York said: “We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride.

“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man.

“We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”

But what will Princess Beatrice’s title be when she marries Edo?

There are several titles Princess Beatrice could assume after she is married.

Born a princess, as the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, her title is Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York.

Princess Beatrice may choose to copy her sister and become Princess Beatrice, Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

If she does mimic her sister with this title, Beatrice may also choose to drop the York part of her name, which acts as her surname.

However, unlike her brother in law who had no royal titles of his own, Edo is in fact known as Count Edoardo Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, having inherited the title from his father, a British alpine skier.

As Beatrice is marrying a Count, she could become a Countess.

Edo’s parents Mrs Nikki Williams-Ellis and Mr Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi said: “We are truly delighted about Edoardo and Beatrice’s engagement.
