Princess Beatrice, 31, tied the knot with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in Windsor last Friday in a low-key royal wedding that was kept secret from the public until afterwards. The nuptials were attended by just 20 guests including Queen Elizabeth II, 94, and Prince Philip, 99.

Beatrice will have been delighted to have had her grandparents at the ceremony and the Duke and the Queen were the only two royals to appear beside the newlyweds in their official weddings photos.

However, Beatrice’s big day was markedly different from that of her cousins Prince William, 38, and Prince Harry, 35, who both received very special royal wedding honours from the Queen.

Prince William and Prince Harry were both gifted new royal titles by the Queen on the morning of their weddings.

Prince William became the Duke of Cambridge when he tied the knot Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry was made the Duke of Sussex when he married Meghan Markle.

The Queen traditionally gifts peerages to male members of the Royal Family when they marry, however, the same is not the case for royal women.

Princess Beatrice’s father Prince Andrew became the Duke of York when he married Sarah Ferguson but neither of his daughters have enjoyed the same royal wedding gift.

While Beatrice may not have become a Duchess of her wedding day she did receive a new title.

Following her marriage to Edoardo, Beatrice will be known as “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice, Mrs Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.”

Bea also inherited titles from her husband’s side of the family, becoming an Italian ‘Contessa’ or ‘Nobile Donna’ (noblewoman).

Edoardo’s father Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, 68, descends from Italian aristocracy.

He told Mail Online prior to the wedding: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation.

“He is a count – his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”

  • Princess Beatrice last-minute bid to borrow wedding dress from Queen

The Queen did give Beatrice a very special wedding honour in that she leant her a dress to get married in.

The gorgeous Norman Hartnell gown, worn previously by the Queen in the 1960s, was repurposed for Beatrice’s wedding.

According to a royal insider, the gown was not Bea’s first choice but she asked the Queen to borrow it after she had a “last-minute change of heart” about her original dress.

A source told People Magazine: “Beatrice made a request [to borrow one from the Queen], and that was kindly granted – and it looked amazing! It was touching for both of them.”

The Queen’s dresser Angela Kelly had just three weeks to help remodel the evening gown to suit Beatrice for her big day.

Beatrice and Edoardo were due to marry at St James’s Chapel on May 29 but their original wedding plans were thwarted by the coronavirus pandemic.

While Bea’s secret big day may have stunned royal fans she was always expected to have a low-key royal wedding.

Speaking about the special day, a friend of the couple told the Sun: “A massive wedding was out of the question because of coronavirus.

“They were obviously very keen for the Queen to come so the wedding had to happen before she goes up to Balmoral so this was a great opportunity.

“So many guests were disappointed not to make the big day but understood the reason for it.

“They needed to make the wedding COVID-secure and safe for the Queen so what better way than the All Saints Chapel with a reception on-site at the Royal Lodge.”
