Princess Beatrice heartbreak: How Princess Bea’s royal wedding has taken a backseat

Princess Beatrice announced her engagement to property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in September after the pair had enjoyed a romantic holiday to Edo’s native Italy. The couple released adorable engagement photos to mark the occasion which were taken by Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie.

In a statement, the happy couple said: “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married.

“We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

Now royal fans are eagerly awaiting more information on the wedding, including the venue, date and even who will be in the wedding party.

However, it seems the announcement for Princess Bea’s wedding has taken a backseat amid the recent royal upheaval.

Daily Mail Online reported Beatrice and Edo first had to wait for a date to be agreed by the Queen and then faced a further delay as they waited for the “furore surrounding Prince Andrew to die down”.

Prince Andrew faced backlash after a BBC Newsnight interview on his relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Host Emily Maitlis quizzed the Duke of York on his association with Epstein, and viewers were angry that her questions seemed to go unanswered.

After the interview, Prince Andrew released a statement announcing he would be stepping down from his public duties.

Andrew said: ”It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support.

“Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.”

After Christmas, Princess Beatrice faced a further delay to her wedding plans as Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry announced their intentions to quit the Royal Family and split their time between the UK and Canada.

Senior royals then undertook intense discussions on the logistics of Meghan and Harry’s plans, perhaps further delaying the announcement of Beatrice’s wedding yet further.

Sources have suggested Bea’s wedding will take place in the “early summer” before Royal Ascot week.

However, no official date has yet been revealed.

Beatrice’s wedding is expected to be more pared-back than that of her sisters, with Eugenie’s wedding broadcast around the world.

There has been speculation on the wedding location, with some wondering whether the nuptials will be held in Edo’s native Italy.

However, Bea’s mother Sarah Ferguson put those rumours to bed stating: “It can only be Britain”.

So which location in the UK Beatrice and Edoardo will choose is now up for debate between royal experts.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams spoke of possible locations for the couple’s upcoming wedding.

He said Bea may take a leaf out of her sister’s book and also tie the knot at St George’s Chapel.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “The likelihood is that Beatrice’s wedding, which will probably be the last high-profile royal nuptials for many years, will also be at St George’s Chapel, Windsor and will attract a lot of attention though obviously, nothing compared to those of senior royals – it will almost certainly not be at Westminster Abbey.

“Beatrice and Edoardo’s relationship has been a whirlwind romance and the couple’s families have been close for many years so they are all delighted…

“Many happy years for a devoted couple undoubtedly lie ahead.”
