Princess Beatrice heartbreak: How Bea is breaking wedding tradition – when will she wed?

Bride-to-be Princess Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, was due to marry 37-year-old Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a ceremony at St James’s Palace on May 29. The reception was due to be held in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, courtesy of her grandmother, the Queen. But the wedding will no longer be going ahead next month.

How has Princess Beatrice broken royal tradition?

The vast majority of royal weddings take place within the six months following a proposal.

In the case of Princess Beatrice, this tradition will not be fulfilled as the couple have had no choice but to cancel their wedding in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle on November 27, 2017, and they were married on May 19, 2018 – just under six months in between the dates.

Similarly, Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton on November 16, 2010, and they were married five months later on April 29, 2011.

When will Princess Beatrice get married?

Princess Beatrice is reportedly not considering any wedding plans any time soon.

A spokesperson for the couple told People: “There are no plans to switch venues or hold a bigger wedding.

“They aren’t even thinking about their wedding throughout this time. There will come a time to rearrange, but that is not yet.”

A source told People that “the invitations were never actually sent out” due to the couple’s escalating fears over the crisis.

A source told the Daily Mail that the couple were considering having a “much larger affair” when the situation has recovered next year.

They said: “As the granddaughter of the Queen, it seems unfair that Bea would have had to hide her nuptials from the public when her younger sister Eugenie did not have to.

“Eugenie’s wedding was televised and watched by three million viewers in the UK alone.

“Beatrice and Eugenie’s profiles and workloads will increase after the departure of Harry and Meghan.

“Beatrice wants to show the public that she will never shirk her civic duties. She wants the public to see her as an individual, and not to be judged for the mistakes of her father.

“By next year, it would be wonderful if she could hold her head up high as she walks down the aisle in front of hundreds of people.”

When Edoardo and Beatrice finally do get married, she is set to inherit a shiny new title.

While she will not become a Duchess due to a royal tradition that states only male descendants of the monarch are granted a Dukedom, she will become a countess.

Her countess title, however, does not come from her own royal connections but in fact her husband-to-be’s.

In addition to being a multi-millionaire property entrepreneur, Edoardo is an Italian count.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Edoardo’s father Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi said: “Edoardo is the only male descendant taking the family into the next generation.

“He is a count – his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna (Italian for woman).”

He added that Beatrice and Edoardo are “very suited to each other” and that he has “never seen him so happy”.
