Princess Beatrice heartbreak: Former flames before Edoardo revealed

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi have been spotted together at many royal events in the last few months, fuelling speculation that the loved-up pair may be about announce the next royal wedding for the nation. Edo, as he is known to friends, is a long-time family friend of the Duke and Duchess of York, and is the son of British-Italian Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi.

While Beatrice seems  blissfully happy with her new beau, she has had her heart broken by others in the past.

Podcast “Royals”, from Australian magazine New Idea, heard from royal expert Angela Mollard on some of the princess’ old flames.

Ms Mollard said: “She went out with a boy called Paulo Liuzzo, an American guy.

“They didn’t go out for long, less than a year.

“The end of the relationship came when it was discovered that he was charged with assault and battery in the case of a death of student at university.

“So they broke up when his criminal record was revealed.”

She went on: “He had come to visit England, under his parole conditions he was ok to visit the UK.

“But, then he decided to go skiing in the French Alps, which broke his parole conditions and he was sent back to the US.

“He’s subsequently been charged with cocaine possession.

“So she escaped a bullet with him, I think – he would not have been a suitable boyfriend.”

Mr Luizzo dated the princess when she was 17 and he was 24, in 2006.

He was handed down parole in 2002, and after the probation violation in 2006 was forbidden by a US judge from returning to the UK.

Ms Mollard continued: “[Beatrice] then spent 10 years with a very nice chap called Dave Clark.

“He was an Uber executive.

“A decade together – I think it was probably one of those relationships where they were comfortable, they really liked each other, but there just wasn’t that spark.

“He went on and married someone within [two years] of their separation.”

Mr Clarke married fiancée Lynn Anderson in July 2018, shortly before Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding that year.

However, Prince William was said to be a key figure in Beatrice and Mr Clark’s separation at the time.

He had initially introduced the pair when he played matchmaker at the birthday party of Pierce Brosnan’s son Sean in 2006.

However, in 2015 a source told the Daily Mail: “William isn’t a huge fan of Dave.

“It’s fair to say that if Beatrice had asked the Queen for permission to marry Dave, and she in turn asked William privately for his view, she may not have been given a glowing report.”

Ms Mollard continued: “Since then she’s had a short-term relationship with Wilfred Frost, the son of David Frost.

“She seems to like the same sorts of men, she has a type.

“I would like to see her with a really solid English guy, maybe someone from he art world that she works in.

“She’s a little bit like her mum, she seems drawn like a firefly to the playboy look.”

She added: “I hope Edoardo is perfect for her!”

Ms Mollard  also addressed rumours that Beatrice may not be given the same honour that Eugenie was given for her wedding.

She said: “It’s interesting, there has been some talk that she can’t have the sort of wedding that her younger sister Princess Eugenie had.

I suspect because of the fact that he [Edoardo] had a child with somebody else and didn’t marry her.”

Mr Mapelli Mozzi has a two-year-old son called Wolfie from a previous relationship.

However, Ms Mollard commented: “Look, I think this is probably pure speculation.

“We know Meghan married in the Church, she was a divorcee.

“I can’t see any reason why Edoardo is not a suitable partner to be married in a similar manner to Eugenie.

“He has a son he clearly adores, the relationship didn’t work out with the child’s mum, but you really just want people to be happy in the end don’t you?”
