Welcoming her niece yesterday, Beatrice’s sister Princess Eugenie wrote on Instagram: “Beabea and Edo, congratulations on your new angel. “I can’t wait to meet her and I’m so proud of you. We’re going to have so much fun watching our children grow up.” Buckingham Palace announced the birth of the little girl, at 11.42pm on Saturday September 18, weighing 6lb 2oz, at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The child is 11th in line to the throne.
Prince Andrew is expected to visit the tot and eldest daughter Beatrice soon.
The new mum, 33, wrote on Twitter: “So delighted to share the news of the safe arrival of our daughter.”
Ladbrokes immediately made Matilda the 4-1 favourite for the baby’s name, followed by Florence at 9/2.
Buckingham Palace said: “The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news.
“Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing her to her big brother Christopher Woolf.”
Beatrice is stepmother to Edoardo’s son “Wolfie”, born in 2016, from his relationship with Dara Huang.
Like her mother, the new arrival is a royal but will not carry out official duties on the Queen’s behalf.
The new parents wed in July 2020 in secret lockdown nuptials attended by the Queen and Prince Philip. The baby is a second grandchild and the first granddaughter for Andrew and ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, as Eugenie had a boy, August, in February.
Beatrice is a vice-president at Afiniti, an artificial intelligence firm. Edoardo, 37, is a millionaire property tycoon and son of former British Olympic skier Count Alessandro Mapelli-Mozzi and Nikki Williams-Ellis.
