Princess Beatrice, 31, was due to marry property developer Edoardo “Edo” Mapelli Mozzi this year. However, with the ongoing health crisis caused by the coronavirus, the wedding has been put on hold. Details about Princess Beatrice’s wedding were not revealed until February, months after the engagement announcement in September 2019.

In a statement issued by Buckingham Palace on February 7, it said: “The wedding of HRH Princess Beatrice of York and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will take place on Friday 29 May 2020. The couple became engaged in Italy in September 2019.

“Her Majesty The Queen has kindly given permission for the ceremony to take place at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace.

“The ceremony will be followed by a private reception, given by The Queen, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.”

The Queen’s granddaughter was due to marry this coming week, and will surely not be looking forward to what would have been her wedding day on May 29.

Beatrice, who is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, had already had her wedding overshadowed by her father.

In November last year, Andrew stepped back from royal duties because questions on his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein had become a “major disruption”.

The unlucky Princess had planned to marry at St James’s Palace in London, in a Church of England ceremony.

A glimmer of hope was given to the Princess earlier this month, when the Government announced new changes in lockdown measures.

As part of the Government’s strategy for getting the UK out of lockdown, new guidelines say: “The Government is also examining how to enable people to gather in slightly larger groups to better facilitate small weddings.

“Over the coming weeks, the Government will engage on the nature and timing of the measures in this step, in order to consider the widest possible array of views on how best to balance the health, economic and social effects.”

Justice Secretary Robert Buckland has said he was working out how to implement potential changes for ceremonies as the UK enters the next stage of the coronavirus crisis.

Mr Buckland said: “You’ll be glad to know that we are giving anxious consideration to the issue of marriages.

  • Second royal wedding CANCELLED this month due to deadly pandemic

“We want to help people like you, but there are also some people who are really… they want to get married because things are happening in their life that means they might not be together for a long time and therefore I’m giving a lot of anxious consideration to the effect of the potential changes here as to what we can do with regard to marriage ceremonies. So watch this space, we’re working on it.”

But even though the changes spell good news for some upcoming brides, Bea’s wedding date quickly put a stop to the joy.

Any new rules regarding weddings will not come into force until June 1 at the very earliest, meaning the 31-year-old royal’s wedding was scheduled too soon.

Places of worship also won’t be allowed to reopen again until the start of July.

What do we know about Princess Beatrice’s wedding?

Date: The original date of May 29 has been pushed back, likely to 2021.

Venue: The Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace has been announced as the wedding venue. The chapel is likely to have special significance to the bride-to-be, who was baptised there herself in 1988.

Guestlist: The guest list has not been released by the Royal Family, but the nuptials are likely to be an intimate affair. The Chapel Royal only holds up to 150 guests.

Wedding dress: Reports have suggested the bride-to-be could go with internationally renowned designer of luxury bridal gowns Caroline Castilian.
