Princess Beatrice, daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, is ninth in line to the throne, ahead of her sister, Princess Eugenie. Beatrice was born at 8.18pm on August 8, 1988, at the Portland Hospital, and is the fifth grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The princess made headlines in recent weeks when she married her long-term fiancé, millionaire property developer and Italian count Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.
How will Princess Beatrice celebrate her birthday this year?
The birthday of Princess Beatrice is sure to be a special occasion for the newlywed couple.
This will be her first birthday as wife to Edo, and stepmother to his son, Christopher, who was in attendance at their wedding.
Although unclear exactly what the Princess will get up to today, lockdown restrictions easing in the UK means she is likely to have a small birthday gathering.
While Princess Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie spent lockdown apart and living in separate homes, the sisters, who are famously extremely close, are likely to celebrate the day together.
Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank spent lockdown at the Yorks’ family home at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park with her parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
Seeing as Beatrice held her wedding reception in the grounds of the Royal Lodge, it is not a far-fetched idea for the family to hold a socially-distanced gathering in the beauty spot.
To mark the occasion of Princess Beatrice’s birthday, the official Twitter and Instagram pages for the Royal Family shared celebratory posts.
One image posted featured the Princess with her grandmother Queen Elizabeth II with whom she is very close.
The photograph, which was snapped during a Maundy Thursday service at York Minster, shows the duo smiling at one another as Beatrice holds a bouquet of flowers.
The post read: “Wishing Princess Beatrice a very happy birthday! Her Royal Highness is The Queen’s 5th grandchild.”
Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, also shared a birthday message for her daughter, describing her as “my dearest Beatrice”.
She wrote: “8.8.88 at 8.18pm was one of the greatest and most proud moments of my life.

Her sister Princess Eugenie also devoted a social media post to her sister in which she wished her a happy birthday.
The post read: “You have been bossing it since before I was born and continue to be the most wonderful person, friend and big sister… Happy Birthday to you Beabea!!”
Beatrice’s birthday celebrations comes following a honeymoon to France she took alongside her new husband last week.
They were spotted by a tourist as they drove through the country in “a small car absolutely packed to the roof with stuff”.
At first, the couple had planned not to have a honeymoon in light of numerous travel restrictions and the coronavirus pandemic.
However, according to the MailOnline, the duo decided to “pack up the car and head out” at the very last minute.
A source said: “The wedding was arranged in a couple of weeks, and with lockdown their choice of honeymoon destinations were severely curtailed.
“They weren’t going to bother but at the last minute they decided to pack up the car and head out. They’re a very down-to-Earth couple.”
