Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew’s daughters both wept following an attack in the wake of Prince William and Kate’s 2011 marriage. In a wide ranging interview with British Vogue back in 2018, the fashionable sisters spoke of their pressures living in the public spotlight.
Eugenie recalled the moment the sisters both wept just before they were due to host a Buckingham Palace event for WWII veterans.
“There was a horrible article that had been written about Beatrice and she got really upset,” Eugenie said.
“We were just about to step out and she had a bit of a wobble and cried. I was looking after her.
“And then about an hour later, I had a wobble and started crying and Bea was there for me.”
The particular fashion item that seemed to upset critics the most was Beatrice’s distinctive and towering “Pretzel” hat.
The unique headgear was later sold on eBay for a whopping £81,100.01 – and the money given to Unicef and Children in Crisis.
Commenting on the auction at the time, Princess Beatrice said she was “amazed” by the attention it attracted.
She added: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities.
“I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have.”
Philip Treacy, the hatmaker behind the look, quipped that he thought he would end up with his “head on a spike” for the elaborate design.
Princess Eugenie added that when she were younger, she hid behind her sister whenever they went to a party or event.
She said: “I always used to make her go into parties first.

“I’d hide behind her and she’d make the first move, then I’d get louder and louder as she made me more confident.”
Further speaking about how they look after each other, Eugenie said they were “each other’s rocks”.
“We’re the only other person in each other’s lives who can know exactly what the other one is going through.”
