Princess Anne is renowned for being the hardest-working royal, and her dedication to the Royal Family has led one royal editor to suggest a national day to celebrate the Princess Royal and her work. The idea has been backed by two-thirds of Express.co.uk readers, a new poll has shown.

Anne is the only daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and has served the Firm since she was 18 years old.

Royal editor of the Sunday Times, ​​Roya Nikkhah, has called for the nation to celebrate her commitment with a national day of voluntary service. She told Times Radio on March 8 that Anne is “the best Queen we’ll never have”.

She said: “Yes, I think you know people always say, ‘Oh, she’s so overlooked.’ Why? The answer to that question is because she wants to be overlooked…she doesn’t want media attention. She loves getting on doing her thing without getting the plaudits.

“But what I found about that whole sort of 14 days of the Queen dying and what really sort of sharpened in people’s minds was the fact that you know that journey she did with the Queen from Balmoral to Edinburgh, the journey she did with the Queen from Scotland. to London, people were suddenly like, wow, Princess Anne, and there’s a reason for that. And I think it sort of focused people’s minds on the fact that she just sort of is this quiet figure.”

She added: “I admire her for the fact that she doesn’t want plaudits should we have a national Princess Anne day, yeah and it could be all about voluntary service.”

In a poll that ran from 11.30am on Tuesday, March 14, to 12.30pm on Thursday, March 16, Express.co.uk asked readers: “Should there be a national Princess Anne day?”

A total of 1,077 readers responded, with the majority, 67 percent (720 people), answering “yes” in support of a national Princess Anne day.

Meanwhile, 31 percent (335 people) said “no” there should not, and a further two percent (22 people) said they did not know either way.

Dozens of comments were left below the accompanying article as readers shared their thoughts on the idea.

Many readers commented in support of a national day to honour the Princess Royal, with username tiedog writing: “Yes Princess Anne is the hardest working Royal. She deserves a Princess Anne day with all the good she has done for us all.”

Username Luella7 said: “I think it’s all about recognising Princess Anne as she always seems to be in the background of the Royals doing her duty and supporting the King, giving her credit where credit is due.”

Similarly, username dansyerman said: “God bless Princess Anne she is a credit to this country.”

While username donotcare remarked: “Long as it came as a bank holiday I’d vote for it.”

Other readers supported the idea but highlighted that Anne might not like the attention that came with it.

Username Cyflym11 said: “I’m not averse to it. I’m a big admirer of Princess Anne. I doubt she would even want such a thing though so I don’t really see the point.”

Username blimps wrote: “She is a great asset to the royal family, works well for her causes, particularly the Red Cross. No more holidays though, she wouldn’t want it anyway. Princess Anne is all business, no fuss or frills.”

Another, username WHAT? Said: “Look, I am a royalist, I think they do a great job promoting the country and bring in a massive amount of tourist money, but, a Princess Anne day, don’t be daft, and she would think the same.”

Likewise, username dacia said: “Not a good idea, The Princess Royal gets on with the job without needing fanfares etc, she is the best of the bunch.

And username Pivoine rouge added: “Princess Anne would be the first to dub this a ridiculous idea.”

Anne attended 214 royal engagements in 2022, making her the hardest-working member of the Royal Family. Her most notable duty of last year was her journey accompanying her mother’s coffin.

She said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace: “I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys.”

Anne was also the only female member of the royal family to take part in the funeral processions for the Queen and was the first female participant to take part in the Vigil of the Princes alongside her three brothers – King Charles III, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.
