The Princess Royal, 69, will put her own spin on the June 29 edition of the British weekly magazine to mark her 70th birthday on August 15. In 2018 the Prince of Wales, 71, guest edited the November 14 issue to commemorate his landmark birthday – the magazine subsequently became the biggest selling edition in its 123-year history.

Princess Anne has featured on the Frontispiece of the magazine 10 times and is set to use the special souvenir edition to showcase her love of the outdoors, nature and horses.

The publication will give an insight into the royal’s rather private family life with her husband Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, at their Gatcombe Park home in Gloucestershire.

The Princess Royal who is now 14th-in-line to the throne, was the first member of the Royal Family to have competed in the Olympic Games, when she took part in the equestrian three-day event at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.

Princess Anne also won a gold medal at the European Three-Day Event Championships in 1971 – and was crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

The edition will also highlight the remarkable work Princess Anne has completed over the years with the more than 300 charities and organisations that she is actively involved in.

The magazine will also reveal the Princess Royal’s favourite painting, her best-loved garden and her champions of the countryside.

Every year Princess Anne is widely regarded as one of the hardest working members of the Royal Family.

In 2019, the Princess Royal completed over than 500 royal engagements – at a rate of more than one a day.

Country Life Editor Mark Hedge said: “There are few people who are more respected and admired than The Princess Royal and I am delighted that she has chosen Country Life to mark her 70th birthday.

“It promises to be a wonderful issue.”

The Princess Royal is understood to be staying at her home in Gloucestershire during the coronavirus pandemic, however this has not stopped the hardworking royal from conducting duties.

This afternoon Princess Anne joined leading members of the Royal Family to thank nurses around the world for their enormous sacrifice as part of International Nurses’ Day.

In a video message, Princess Anne who is patron of the Royal College of Midwives, said she is sending her “best wishes” to nurses around the world.

“In previous years, there has always been the opportunity to celebrate your profession and fellowship together. This year, those plans have had to be put on hold.

“In many ways though, despite not being able to come together as a profession you have never been more united.”
